2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Concept

The Ford Explorer Sport Trac concept delivers more of everything that helped the original sport utility truck launch one of the fastest growing segments in the industry.

With a wider and longer stance and improved power, this concept offers even more versatility and flexibility than today’s Explorer Sport Trac. It also comes equipped with Ford’s exclusive Roll Stability Control™ – the only roll-motion and roll-rate sensing technology available on the market today.

Ford invented the sport utility truck in 2001, bringing to market the Explorer Sport Trac – the first sport utility vehicle with the versatility of four full doors, a roomy feature-filled interior and a pickup truck’s cargo box.

"With the addition of a number of new competitive offerings, the sport utility truck segment is red hot, and it’s time for the original to raise the bar again for everyone else to try to follow," said Chris Feuell, Ford Motor Company SUV group marketing manager. "This concept magnifies all of the aspects of Sport Trac that customers already love and introduces some street- savvy cues."

Versatility is central to Explorer Sport Trac’s sales success. Today’s Explorer Sport Trac is the only vehicle in its segment to offer a durable color-coordinated cargo box and an available swing-over tubular bed extender that dramatically increases its capability to haul oversized cargo. The Explorer Sport Trac concept’s interior is larger and the cargo bed is about 30 percent bigger than today’s model for increased cargo capacity.

The Explorer Sport Trac concept takes the vehicle to a new level – lower than ever for a mean, street look. Riding on massive 21-inch, 10-spoke aluminum wheels with a gunmetal finish and custom Goodyear tires, the Explorer Sport Trac concept delivers an improved ride thanks to a new independent rear suspension.

    Exterior: Street Rod Style

The Explorer Sport Trac concept’s smooth appearance is achieved by simple lines, excellent proportions and clean body panels. The exterior color is off-white Moonlight with a theme of polished aluminum accents found on the upper and lower grille, fog lamps and exhaust tips. The door handles have been shaved off, adding to the sleek look of this street rod machine. To get in, you simply press unlock on the key fob and the doors automatically open.

"We wanted the Explorer Sport Trac concept to turn heads and to give it ‘street cred’," said J Mays, group vice president, Global Design. "This concept is as at home in an urban environment as it is hauling surf boards to the beach. Versatility is – and will continue to be – what Sport Trac is all about."

The Explorer Sport Trac concept is nearly 5 inches longer, 2 inches wider, and sits 2 inches lower than today’s current Sport Trac model. Two side scoops located just in front of the A-pillar and two hood scoops give this concept a performance look. In the rear, sleek wraparound taillamps make a distinctive statement.

    Distinctive Interior

The Explorer Sport Trac concept’s interior also is a tribute to the street rod look and feel. With two rows of seating, the environment is simple, yet modern. It features four bucket captain’s chairs separated by a front and rear center console with an abundance of storage.

The interior color theme is two-tone – Light Ice blue and Midnight navy. The Light Ice leather seats have navy embossed mesh on the seat backs and inserts and are trimmed in contrast navy stitching. This color palette also is continued throughout the cabin accenting the steering wheel, front and rear center console, headliner, door trim panels, shifter and instrument panel.

The truck’s primary gauges are contained within a singe oval instrument binnacle. The speedometer is prominently displayed next to the tachometer. Audio and climate controls are presented in the center of the instrument panel, just ahead of the floor-mounted shifter. Polished aluminum accents the air vents, instrument binnacle and shifter.

    Built for Cruisin’

The Explorer Sport Trac concept is powered by a fuel-efficient, performance tuned 4.6-liter V-8 engine.

Independent rear suspension (IRS) delivers another performance enhancement on the Explorer Sport Trac concept – the first IRS application for the Sport Trac series. IRS offers significantly better handling over both smooth and rough surfaces. It absorbs bumps in the road and reduces impact harshness, resulting in improved ride quality.

Emphasis on Safety: Roll Stability Control™

The Sport Trac concept is equipped with Ford’s exclusive Roll Stability Control™ technology, which adds another dimension of sensing to conventional electronic stability control systems. Roll Stability Control™ will be included on more than half a million Ford Motor Company SUVs by the end of 2005. Unlike any other system in the world, it features roll-rate sensing and correcting capability, offering assistance to the driver in maintaining vehicle control during extreme maneuvers. If the system detects the possibility of a rollover, within milliseconds, it automatically engages counter measures to help the driver maintain maximum control and further reduce the risk of rollover.

Ford’s exclusive Roll Stability Control technology features a micro-machined gyroscopic sensor that determines the vehicle’s body roll angle and roll rate. This information, along with Ford-developed algorithms embedded in advanced software, is used with other vehicle sensors’ inertial information on yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal accelerations to monitor the vehicle’s roll stability condition approximately 150 times per second.

Ford Motor Company has more than 80 patents and patent applications pending worldwide for its industry-leading Roll Stability Control system. The Ford-developed Roll Stability Control system debuted on the 2003 Volvo XC90 and the company expanded it to Lincoln SUVs for the 2004 model year. Ford is underscoring its commitment to safety leadership by offering Roll Stability Control along with the AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control system on Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln Aviator, Mercury Mountaineer and Volvo XC90 sport utility vehicles for the 2005 model year. The company also will extend this breakthrough technology to its 2006MY Econoline 15-passenger wagon. In addition, Ford will make this unique technology available to other automakers through licensing.

    2005 G-Power BMW G6

The G-POWER G6 5.0 engine catapults this 6-series vehicle in M-format from G-POWER on the basis of the new BMW 645i into the highest performance dimension of its category. Generating 420 bhp / 308 kW and a maximum torque of 540 Nm, the modified luxury liner accelerates in just 4.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and has a top speed of 285 km/h.

The G-POWER’s increase in engine capacity to 5.0 litres is achieved by means of the new hand-crafted crankshaft, a modified engine block, various bores and the use of forged pistons and costs € 33,000. Needless to say, the package also includes the modification of the engine control modules for perfect running characteristics. Additionally, the G-POWER stainless steel high-performance exhaust system featuring the backpressure-reduced G-POWER DAINLES® system is fitted in conjunction with metal catalytic converters and a stainless steel exhaust manifold. The newly developed system is available as either a four or twin-pipe version for all engines. The electronic 250 km/h restriction is programmed away online.

G-POWER is setting a milestone in its 20-year history with the new HIGHLINE aerodynamic design line. This new product series has been designed by the G-POWER team in collaboration with automotive designers. During the design process, emphasis has been placed on enhancing the sporty line of the BMW vehicles without going over board. The aerodynamic components lend the BMW models a more sporty design, whilst retaining the same dimensions of the standard components.

The elegant design has been confirmed by conducting a dynamometer test in the wind tunnel. By fitting the G-POWER aerodynamic package, it is possible to reduce the lift at high speeds on the front axle by approx. 20 kg and by approx. 23 kg on the rear axle depending on the equipment fitted. Specifically for the G-POWER supercharged engines, the fresh air inlet has been enlarged in the front section and a reduction in the engine oil temperature by 3 to 5 degrees has been achieved. For the boot lid, the vehicle designers have developed the new HIGHLINE spoiler lip, which goes to complete the overall visual appearance and harmoniously rounds off the new BMW design.

The G-POWER G6 HIGHLINE aerodynamic package is available as a complete set for € 9600 and consists of a front bumper, carbon fibre inserts at the front, a set of side sills, a rear bumper, carbon fibre insert at the rear and a boot lid spoiler. The special thing about the G-POWER component production is that the aerodynamic components are not made from conventional glass fibre material but from carbon-Kevlar reinforced material.

In conjunction with the new engine tuning package, G-POWER supplies the Styling IIIPRO alloy wheels specially developed for the G6, namely in the size 9.0 x 20 inch for the front axle and 10.5 x 20 inch for the rear axle. The 3-piece 15-spoke rims with a highly polished stainless steel outer well are produced from forged aircraft aluminium and are available in the sizes 20, 21 and 22 inch for all BMW models. In terms of the tyres, the size 245/30 ZR 20 has been selected for the front axle and size 295/25 ZR 20 for the rear axle. The complete set of wheels costs € 11800.

Fast drivers must also be able to stop quickly. For the G6 from G-POWER, the tried-and-tested high-performance G-POWER S 85 braking system for € 8950 with a 385 mm diameter and six pistons has been fitted on the front axle. For the rear axle, G-POWER supplies the S 55 six-piston braking system also for the price of € 8950 with a 355 mm diameter.

As regards the chassis, to produce a more comfortable ride, the suspension has been progressively lowered by 25 mm on the front axle and 20 mm on the rear axle.

To refine the interior, G-POWER supplies exclusive accessories such as aluminium pedals with a sporty driver’s footrest, the sporty carbon fibre interior in a choice of black or white and the high-grade G-POWER Kjerba Walknappa leather trims. This high-quality, masterfully crafted G-POWER leather interior costs € 14600 and, at the customer’s request, is available in any colour combination.

The price for the complete vehicle package is € 210,000.

Further information on the entire product range from G-POWER is available by calling

    2005 Techart Porsche 997 911 Carrera

World debut at the ESSEN-MOTOR-SHOW 2004: TechArt Automobildesign (www.techart.de ) presents the sporty TechArt tuning program for the new Porsche 911 Carrera. The various components are calibrated to both current models – Carrera and Carrera S.

Sporty elegance characterizes the design of the TechArt aerodynamic-enhancement kit: The production front apron receives more visual emphasis from the TechArt front spoiler. But that’s not all: The spoiler reduces aerodynamic lift, thus further improving directional stability at high speeds.

The TechArt side sills give the coupe a longer, sleeker look. The understated TechArt roof spoiler visually stretches the roofline. TechArt also developed a rear diffuser for the 997 models, which extends the rear apron downward and provides a dramatic backdrop for the two oval-shaped twin tailpipes of the TechArt sport exhaust system.

Various TechArt rear spoilers, headlamp and mirror housings and rear quarter bumpers are in the final stages of development.

TechArt also offers a TÜV-tested wheel and suspension program: Owners of the new Porsche 911 Carrera or Carrera S can refine their cars with striking, light-weight TechArt Formula five-spoke wheels with 18-, 19- or 20-inch diameters.

The most exclusive version for the new Porsche features new one-piece TechArt Formula light-alloy wheels in size 8.5Jx20 in front and in size 11Jx20 on the rear axle. TechArt recommends ContiSportContact 2 Vmax tires in sizes 235/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 for mounting on these wheels.

Custom-calibrated to the TechArt tire/wheel combinations are the TechArt suspension solutions. The range of modifications starts with TechArt sport springs for a ride-height lowering of some 25 millimeters. It culminates in the TechArt Vario sport suspension that was developed in cooperation with Bilstein. Contrary to conventional coil-over suspensions this innovative solution not only offers the ability to lower the ride-height on front and rear axle individually by up to some 35 millimeters; the TechArt Vario sport suspension also features sport shocks with adjustable bound and rebound. This allows the suspension set-up to be adjusted to individual driver’s preferences and to the predominant use of the car – on public roads or on the racetrack.

For the 997 model series TechArt also offers sport sway bars, a dome cross-brace, and a high-performance brake system with eight-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 365- and 380-millimeter brake discs.

While performance tuning for both 997 engines is still under development, TechArt already offers various versions of exhaust tuning. The product lineup includes oval-shaped dual tailpipes for the production exhaust system, a throttle-controlled sport exhaust system and a complete high-performance exhaust system with high-performance manifold, sport catalysts and rear muffler.

As a world-renowned specialist for exclusive interior creations TechArt Automobildesign also offers individual interiors for the latest 911 series in all colors and designs.

The program for the new Carrera comprises exclusive TechArt Colorline fully leather interiors as well as sporty accessories: TechArt offers ergonomically shaped airbag sport steering wheels, foot pedals, foot rest and shift knob all made from aluminum as well as stainless-steel sill plates with TechArt logo.
