Noob Question / Air Filter

Works out there's 2.5" and 3.0" replacements and I'm not sure which one is mine. I want to make sure before ordering... what should I measure?

Pics:
1- Air filter exterior 3.0"
2- Air filter interior... about 2.6"
3- Pipe 2.75"

I'm guessing 2.5" to have the rubber fit tight... but that's only if I'm actually measuring the right thing.

Any input will be appreciated.

Its probably the 3" filter, can't you buy both and take the wrong one back?

You have to see if it's ID(inside diameter) or OD(outside diameter) then go from there to see where to measure.

Yep, but no one states that in the descriptions

Thanks though.

Buy a K&N if you want to get a filter like that, most everything else, especially those off ebay is junk.

Nothing, I thought you meant buying an entire kit.

I don't care if it is junk, I only need it to get me through a couple of thousand miles more as I'm thinking of getting a new car this year.

So why don't you just keep the one you have now?

I would if I were 100% sure about the new car. My new job pays well, but I got other priorities to take care of before buying a car... and even if I only concentrate on a new car I'd have to save for a while and don't want to keep driving my current car with that filter.

It's cheap and easy to change, but I need to know the right size.

K&N's universal filters are based off the flange ID:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RC-1200

Is this a homemade intake? If not, look up the mfr's specs or call them and buy the right size.

If its homemade or you dont know, I would buy a universal 2.75" filter such as:
http://motors.search.ebay.com/2-75-c...20airQ20filter
Your current filter is probably a 2.75", but shrinks slightly when you take it off.

I'm not positive, but it makes absolutely no sense to base a filter size off the OD of the flange. Basing it off the actual filter might make sense, but then there's no guarantee that it would fit a particular intake tube. My 2 cents..
