Checking 4 Boost Leaks

Hey there.

I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI (turbocharged) and I was looking inside the "stock" intercoler pipe yesterday.

The IC pipe is made of rubber like a rad hose,,, and it appears to be getting old and "Dry Rotted". No visible holes "yet". It is still original I think!
Havn't noticed any power loss but still I have a question,,, Is there any cheap way to check for boost leaks?

Soap + water. Spray on hoses. Air bubbles = leak.

Um,, I'm sorry "Johnnynumfiv" but just a boost gauge (already have one) won't tell me where a leak is.

I'll try spraying soap on the IC pipe though. Thanks guys.

Sorry about that,, not trying to be rude. ^

My car has a stock boost gauge but I don't think it's very accurate. Plus,,,ever since I tried doing some "Free" mods on the intake it stoped working. I'm getting a real gauge now.

Thanks 4 the help.

Best way if the turbo is easily accessible is to block the inlet(compressor side) of the turbo compressor, if the engine stops straight away there are no leaks, if it runs on slighty and stops a small leak and if it keeps running there is a fairly major leak. We do this with our race cars and it seems to work ok
