Hey everybody long time no see. I'll just get to the point, my IS 300's brakelight burned out and I don't know how to replace the bulb on the taillight . . . its the one on the driver's side and i'm sick of having the warning light on in my dash lit everytime i drive anywhere. Any help would be appreciated

1. Pull old bulb out.
2. Put new bulb in.

I'm sure there are some kind of screws that hold the whole assembly onto the car. Try looking on the seem where the trunk closes next to the light.

Oh yeah i tried to find take it out earlier today and found out that its on the other side of the body frame. So now i need some more info to see if there is another way to take off the entire taillight, if necessary

My standard advice for most routine maintenance: Have you tried looking in the owner's manual?

If you don't have one, open the trunk and see if there's a way to pull back the carpeting over the back of the light. There may be some plastic clips involved or even some screws. The socket for the bulb should just pull right out (it may be necessary to give it a quarter or half turn first, or it may be held in place by a screw or two). The bulb will just pull right out of the socket. Take it down to an auto parts store and choose the proper replacement bulb from the wide selection available. If you are unable to identify the part number of the bulb, ask a store employee to assist you in getting the correct bulb. The new bulb will just pop right into the socket, and then replace the socket in the proper hole, giving a quarter or half turn or replace the screws if necessary. Replace the carpet and associated clips or screws. Close the trunk lid. Throw out the old, burnt out bulb. Drive off into the sunset.

And then consider getting an owner's manual.

Hope this helps.

In recent years Volkswagen among other brands has made it impossible to replace them yourself. As far as I heard you need special tools to replace the lights and it'd cost you one full man-hour

One thing is sure, it is getting harder and harder to do. Usually it are just some screws or clips that hold the assembly into place. If you undo these, you should be able to take the bulb out and replace it with one that's in always your dashboard.

Maybe if you're a complete ****ing retard. Techs get paid .25 at work. 15 minutes.

You may have to pull some of the carpet out in the back.
