Car for high hills
My brother lives in the countryside and he wants to buy a car specially designed for humpy roads and high hills..Any suggestions?

a 4x4 of some kind? subaru liberty or forrester perhaps, landcruiser or patrol if he needs something bigger

Turbo diesel will probably be best regardless of the situation. Steep usually means curvy so you're never at a high speed and torque will be what's most useful and best for not draining the fuel tank too quickly. And whether it be a diesel Golf to a TDV8 Landcruiser a chip will give you huge hp and torque improvements for a relatively small amount of money while barely altering your fuel usage.

Off the top of my head, we have a bunch of diesel trucks, some diesel VWs.

It all depends on the budget, but diesel choice is quite limited especially compared to Europe. Being in Canda I'd go petrol without any doubt.

Oh yes. Having driven both the supercharged car had far less lag and better in gear acceleration than the diesel. Adimteddly helped by shorter gearing though. I've also found that modern turbocharged petrol engines have less lag and better in gear acceleration than single turbo diesels. Of course all those comparisons are a bit useless without taking into account weight, gear ratios and so on.
But my personal experience tells me that if you want a car with little lag and good low down power diesels aren't it. At least the ones I've driven. Maybe it's because diesels are usually paired with very long gearing usually, but my highly unscientific test of feel, 100-180km/h in sixth puts the Mini first, Lancia second and BMW third.
