What are Webers?
Ive been reading about engines alot lately looking at what would be best to swap into my car. One thing that keeps popping up is Webers. WTF are they? heaps of engines for sale have something like "twin 45mm Webers" etc. what are they and what do they do? are they of any great benefit? should i buy an engine that already has them or are the easy to fit? Any help would be super guys

Webbers are a kind of carberetor, the mm is the size of the carb . big carbs means alot of air,
another brand of carbs are rodchesters, used on the old vettes

They're a brand of carburetors, super-tunable, awesome looking, and from what I hear, awesome performing. I'd love to slap a set of Webers on my engine. I tried to find a site that had a very good write-up on Webers, but so far no luck. I'll keep lookin though.

There are usually kits you use to put them on, since the face of the carb is going to be different from the one you have on there now, so your going to need a different intake manifold. Not sure if you need to mess with the timing once you put them on though.

Wow, this question shows that I am getting old. Doulbe or triple Webers were the wet dream of all of us as the ultimate carb, during times when the Brits produced the SU and the germans had the Solex as their best ones. Webers were the way to go if you really wanted to increase performance. Dell'Orto's were also highly appreciated.
It is an Italian company, still existing today being involved in injection systems, but of course keeping up a department for supplying old parts. It is now part of the Fiat group (which may disqualify it in the eyes of some of you).

You are correct, I took that pic off of a site with a bugeye sprite, thinking that they were infact Webers. Reread the page and he's talking about his buddy's car with the Weber. http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jbcarey/NewJCarey/ah.htmlThe last time I saw a Weber carb was in 1984, highschool. A friend's older brother had a Datsun 180B with the sidedrafts, either two or three doubles. Wow, eye-candy and I still remember the sound. I've only had Fuel Injected cars ![]()
