OUCH !

Do you own shares in an oil company, Fleet ?

Man you gotta be praying the petrol prices in the US don't end up like us over here.

It leads me to ask how many miles a year you do ?
Right now it feels like a BIG dent in the wallet

The limo averages about 7,000 miles/year. The others only about 4,000/year (or less).
As with a lot other collector car owners, they are not driven too much, which helps offset the low mpg.

I think you mean 25 mpg, which could be a bit on the high side, bot for safety reasons just take it from there

What type of car? Should be easy to find tank size using G gle.
My father had a Beetle in the sixties and it didn't even have a fuel gauge. Just calculating with range was the way to go. How accurate can that be?

Get it fixed eventually, no one will buy a car with a broken gas gauge. Estimate ~200 miles per tank, that way you'll never run out, plus it's easier to add in your head than 265 miles.

Fuel capacity
55 litres
12.1 UK Gal
14.5 US Gal

They didn't have fuel consumption info. Here's the link for more Golf 1.3 specs

EDIT: To calculate mileage: fill-up with gas fully, zero out your trip meter, drive normally for atleast half a tank, fill-up again. Now, divide miles driven by the number of gallons you added the second time. You've got MPG!

In the shed
79, Datsun Stanza or Violet is you're in the States...
50 Litre tank
most distance from one tank was mum driving, she filled it to the lip anf got 550ks from it

best ive done recently is about 450kays
im a spirited driver with track days in there occasionally...

So i spose it gets around 9 - 12L to the 100ks depending on what im doin... not bad for a 25 yo car

yeah, some of today's 4 cylinders would struggle to match that, but under normal conditions most would easily beat it. still, as you said quite the accomplishment for a 25 year old car on carbies
