AMG will do it for a small fee.

It is only on there because of the "gentlemens' agreement", so that the manufacturers official figures are 155mph.

Considering the weight of this car must be around 4400-4500Lbs I wouldn't be trying to take off the speed limiter....

The Brabus SLs, with standard Merc' slushbox are reputed to do well in excess of 200mph. There is no reason why the "standard" AMG model shouldn't be capable of a similar feat.

Now all you need is a stretch of uninhabited, straight roadway 5 miles long...
(Good luck!)

There's a 32 mile stretch, dead straight, somewhere in Nevada, if I recall correctly

If I remember correctly the AMG-version without limit has still a limit of 300 kmh.
There was a report in AMS a few weeks ago where a SL65 was driving in Nardo without _any_ limit and it hit 338 kmh. That's a little bit more as the SLR, isn't it?

Yep there's an article about that in the 10 November AMS. They tried the Golf R32 HGP Biturbo, Porsche 9ff, SL65, Alpina B7, Brabus Maybach, Audi RS6 MTM Clubsport and the Audi A8 MTM K500 at Nardo.

Alpina B7: 311 km/h
Brabus Maybach: 314 km/h
SL65 AMG: 338 km/h
RS6 Clubsport: 313 km/h
A8 K500: 297 km/h
9ff 9F-V400: 334 km/h
HGP Golf R32 Biturbo: 321 km/h

AMS tested the SLR up to 334 km/h
