Wiring questions?

I'm going to be driving in a couple days and recently got a new stereo. It's a pioneer deh-p4600mp. I got new door speakers also. But as for the question, I was wondering if anyone knows how to wire a subwoofer directly to my cd player with out an amp? The sub is a 10" MTX Blue Thunder. Any help would be amazing.

I think you'll need a dedicated amp to drive a 10" sub. Power your other speakers with the built-in chip amp of the head unit but get a low pass filter for the sub and run it with a separate amp.

yes unless ya dun want any power out of yer sub, you will have to run an amp to it as the built-in amp in the stereo wont be able to power it, usually that gives a max of ~100w or maybe 200w, usually a sub needs over 400w to sound good.

its easy to run an amp though.

Yeah if i had about 200 for a decient amp i would. I've got a friend who has 2 8" MTX subs running off of his head unit and it sounds good. My subs max is 500watt, like 150 rms i think. Thanks for the help. But im really interested in seeing what it sounds like running it from my head unit. Thanks guys! But could i get a little advice for head unit to sub wiring?

Buy 2 hamsters and a wheel. Attach wire to hamsters. Use energy from Hamsters' running to power new sub.

I'd recommend the Roborovski hamsters, pound for pound rather ounce for ounce the best hamster for grunt labor. Get a decent pair and you could probably do away with the car's battery.

Don't waste time trying to power it off the head. It's not worth your time, and you'll probably blow fuses. Try a pawn shop. You can usually find a cheap used amp for under $100.

Yay I wasted my 3000th post. I wanted to do something special.

eh you did something special. lol im getting a alpine amp in a month or so. It will push my 10" perfect. As for rockafella and perfadv, i like it how things are taken so seriously around here when people actually have car questions. Makes me wonder exactly why ucp is "getting a bad name"

right!? Initially when the posts said that you'd need an amp to properly drive a sub you scoffed at that and said a buddy's subs are driven just fine with the head unit. That is not possible, unless you definition of fine is that there was sound. To properly move a large magnet, as in a subwoofer you need a lot of damping power. The chip amps that head units have cannot provide this type of damping, the sound is never clean. That's why some go overboard and create multi-amped systems that don't have a power shortage but sound off, as if the sound is out of sync.

IMO, the ideal system: 4 channel amp driving 4 sets of separates and a dedicated amp for the subwoofer. The head unit shouldn't have the built-in amp, the best head-units are w/o amp.

my "buddy" or friend i guess has 2 8" MTX Road Thunders, or something of the sort. It sounds fine in his single cab dakota. It hits right into the seat. I'm looking for amps anyway. I actually talked to a guy that put in my head unit and rear door speakers, he told me he could hook up 2 10" MTX Blue Thunders (exactly like mine, except i only have one) and it would shake the mirrors. It must be quite a bit of power to shake the mirrors, my speakers now don't. Not even close actually. I'm not argueing, i've herd cars that run subs off the head unit amp. If i can get an amp, im going to. I'm looking at a Kicker amp right now. I'll prolly get it, and throw it all in my blazer by the end of next week.
