Euro 1983 BMW 732i

Id been car shopping for about a month, but I ended up buying this thing while I was on a trip in San Francisco. I had planned on driving it 1900miles back here to Texas, but the stupid clutch died when a friend was driving it. So I dragged it back on a trailer hooked up to the back of the 26foot truck that we already had to drive back.

Its a grey-market import from back in the day, so everything is in German. I think its rated at 200hp but its got a 5-speed manual, and I'll be adding a chip and an intake for good measure. Paid $2200 for it. The new clutch will end up being about $800 installed. Still a good value. Not as fun as my old E30s but I wanted something bigger.

That is a great car!
Sadly, to own a car like that over here it means you have to pay a lot of taxes every year if you want to use it as a every day car...

How's the interior?

It looks like it's in great condition. Are old BMW's a problem with maintenance?

Congrats!! An 'uncle' had the 728 with a 5 spd. in the early eighties. Great car.

If it's unmolested, keep it that way, imo. It's not like you're going to make it blisteringly quick by chipping and exhaust or whatever you have planned. The value in such an elegant saloon is in keeping it original.

Wow! I've never actually seen one of those in real life- a sort of Holy Grail round these parts.

Lovely catch.

Not really, just check the oil once and a while when you drive a bit like a madman and that's about it. You do have to be very carefull with a cold engine, they need to be warm before you can rev it, they are really intensive for that. But this old 7 is build to last!

thanks for all the compliments...its at the shop right now but ill egg-nog it soon. $2200 would have been a great deal if the clutch hadnt gone, but ive never seen one of these things for sale in the states ever. I didnt even know they existed, I had to look it up. The only US models were the 733i and 735i. This thing is slightly more powerful than a euro-spec 733i and only a bit less than a euro-spec 735i...but its more powerful than either of the US-spec models, not to mention the euro bumpers save some weight...as does the lack of an electric sunroof, power seats, etc. I dont mind adding a chip and intake because I can always switch it back to the original parts easily...and I already run a higher octane fuel because of the higher compression so I figure why not add a chip...the intake will just make it sound a bit nicer. As it is right now it has a few dings and dents but I kinda like the dirty-old-euro look.
