New Magnaflow exaust for my Pointer

As I was driving around town, I started to hear a strange noise from the exaust system. I went to a local muffler shop and they found that the OEM catalitic converter was basically shot. As long as I had to spring for a new one, I decided to get a new high flow muffler as well. I decided on a Magnaflow 53000 catalitic converter and a Maganaflow 14807 muffler.

The Pointer has a 2.0 liter engine and the new exuast system gives it a deep...how should I say...burble at low rpms and at about 3,000 rpms it changes to a deep roar. I'm thinking of getting headers installed but I don't want it to get any louder. Any suggestions? Headers or not? I'll post pics of the installed muffler tomorrow on this thread. I can't get under the car, so I'll just take some rear and side shots.

Just use a header, nothing else

I'd hold off on the header, it probably wouldn't make too much of a difference anyways.

Thankfully no, it has a deeper sound than those cheap high piched systems most people install here in Mexico.

Here are a couple of pics of how it looks. Sorry about the quality, I took the pics with my Treo. I've noticed a performance gain after the install. The engine revs more freely and you can feel a slight increse in torque and HP thoughout the rpm range.

Headers on VW motors typically do nothing for performance. You'll get a little more sound, and it'll be a little different. But for the price it's probably not worth it. This is all applicable to the 8v only though. I don't know what motor/valvetrain setups the Pointer has, because VW likes to torture me and not send their best cars to America.

No headers.

It won't make a big difference and it definitely will sound a lot harder...

Ok guys, thanks for the advise. I won't get headers...for now. I'm planing on getting a supercharger for the Pointer in a couple of months. Maybe the headers will be worth it then.

I wanted to check out Borla, but the nearest distributor is in Mexico City, about a 3 hour drive from Queretaro. I'm quite happy with my Magnaflow set up.

I was going to spring for one of these

http://www.dtperformance.com.au/v8cruise.htm

for my V8 Cruiser (it should at least sound like one!) but I found out that the standard muffler actually has two stages anyway. It opens up the baffles when you give it some (Aston Martin style!) So I am going to drop the rear resonator and either leave it off or put on a more blingy one to make more noise.
Some people never grow up.

LOL, growing up is over rated. Let us know how you like it once you change the resonator. How do you do that anyway??

It is right near the rear bumper, cut it off and weld on the blingy one!
