Blown head gasket.. it's been sitting at the end of my driveway for about a month. That and it's been leaking from a bunch of places, specifically the coolant, windshield washer fluid, and somewhere else that I never figured out.

Cry me a friggin' river. You pay more in taxes than you do for the actual fuel. Take it up with your government.

Assuming he drives about 12000 miles a year, and he drives equal amounts of city and highway, at what gas prices are right now, he'll spend an extra $422 on gasoline. A lot? Maybe. But cost of ownership for a Pcar is going to put the Sierra lightyears ahead of the 911. Hell, I'd bet insuring it in his name alone would triple what he's paying on the truck.

Ofcourse hes allowed to own it. I never disputed that. But its just such a waste of resources. And besides, a Porsche would be a helluva lot more fun to drive than this it would seem. And I seem to recall My Porsche saying he wouldn't have a problem with insurance....

I can't change anyones mind on this, I have my own opinions.

I'm not jealous at all. My first car is likely to be a 2.0l Toyota Corona, and i'm happy with that. Peppy enough engine, suspension tuned by Chris Amon (f1 driver) reliable, comfortable. Its not going to win any races but...who cares?

What I meant Quiggs is that even if he has those commitments, school still does take a big chunk of potential driving time out of your day.

For the record I do think its a nice looking truck. But the world would be a better place if only people who absolutely needed them drove them.

Congrats, Colin. It's good to see you're on the road!

I happen to like that, despite being morally opposed to SUVs... it's stupid anyway, as even if I did get an RS6 it'd do the same gas mileage and same insurance as a Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

Doubt it. Let's not get into insuring a Porsche versus a Chevrolet.

He probably could get away with something smaller. Maybe he doesn't want to.

Why do non-Americans care oh so much what Americans drive? Did SUVs run over all your dogs when you were kids, or what?
I'm wit Piacki on this one. Th rest of the world cars so much about what Americans do because Its our freaking planet too.

And its not just a matter of fuel consumption, an SUV like that is a waste of a lot of resources than just fuel.

In my case, i was disappointed to see that someone in the next generation of Americans is just perpetuating the old habits instead of stoping to think a little bit about the rest of the world.

A Porsche at least is small and a car that will be exciting to drive, not to mention alot cheaper to fuel,
One, they are brushed aluminum wheels. Two, the 911 gets 17 mpg, the truck around 15-16...saving me roughly $4 per fill up. (26 gallon tank, 1 mpg saved with the porsche, go even lower and say 13mpg, thats 2 gallons, at $2.20 per gallon, thats $4.40.)

I like the thought of your post, trashing his argument, but actually the Porsche was going to be very reasonable to insure.

I was actually looking at this truck that was really cool looking, and had a bullet hole in the rear wheel well.

Why does a non-British person like you care what a non-American thinks about what you non-Swedish people drive?

As for the choice of vehicle:-

I can vaguely understand why some would want to own a lumbering hulk, I'm just finding it difficult to comprehend why anyone who was a car "enthusiast" would want to drive such a thing.

Fair enough, if there is a practical necessity - you actually need the ground clearance/ cargo bed, you might have one to fulfil that role; if there is no actual need, however, why would you want anything that is clearly never going to be enjoyable to drive?

It's equivalent to being a lover of steak, so you go to the shop to get steak, but they don't have any; so you go into your garden and eat a stick instead.

It's like steak - begins with "st", ends in "k", its brown and dogs are fans of both - but it is hardly much of a replacement.

A Chevrolet Manly Rugged 1500 Jack Bauer Edition, with added Heterosexuality is like a Porsche 911 - 4 wheels, an engine, both make you look as if you are compensating for something - but it isn't really in the same league.

If you want to ferry people around in something comfortable and spacious with dire fuel economy - get an E39 M5. At the weekend you can still get some enjoyment out of it round a track.

yeah but can you conveniantly throw 4-5 mount. bikes and/or a surfboard into the boot of an M5? no.

It's my car, it's what I wanted since I don't fit in the 911. Quit giving me shit about it. **** off guys.
