New Race car - the story begins.

Team Sharperto have a new race car.

Suprise suprise its another Toyota, its a KE 20 coupe, the brother bought it for 3500 last night .

The specs are as follows:

3J (IRPA) cams logged shell
Koni adjustable front struts,
Nolothane bushes throughout.
4age 20v 1.6 litre
Front dics brakes with commodore modified caliper
rx 7 rear discs. and caliper
Brake proportioning valve
Modified pedal box
Alloy roll cage
Reset rear leaf springs
TRD 4.55:1 Lsd
Foam filled race tank
Surge Tank with Bosch high flow fuel pump.

The plan is to build it up over 12-18 months, turbo the engine, change tyres to 14 inch. Repaint in team colours. Hoping for 300hp at the wheels and a dry weight of 800kg.

heres a pic of the car

That'd almost be worth it just for the 20V engine

Should go pretty good in 2yrs time

We got it mainly because its a logged shell, want to keep it light as so the alloy cage is great, It came with a heap of spares also. We have learnt the hard way from building a car from scratch. The fuel system, surge, foam filled tank and pump would cost 1500 new.

Do they go about making alloy cages any differently to steel cages?

Alloy cages cant be used in a new car as cams wont pass them anymore, thats why we wanted this car as its logged already. They can be welded or they can be bolted in sections not sure what cage is in it, just know its alloy.
We should have the engine done by Christmas as the tuner we use is going to build it and dyno it for us for free, we just supply the parts. They are very interested in seeing what a 1.6 litre can do under IPRA rules. Also there is a big market for added performance from the 4age due to the fact heaps of the clubman replicas run them and most of them want more power.

Looking good, make sure you provide us with info and pics of how the project is going! I personally haven't stumbled upon a car like this in person.
