Fiat Grande Punto

Somehow I've managed to buy a Fiat again.

But this one is complete opposite of my previos car - it is a very basic and modest form of transportation.

So, my new ride is a 2006 Fiat Grande Punto 5dr base model with 1,4 8v petrol engine. It is very clean and honest little car with full service history, dealer warranty and with very attractive price. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Driving position, visibility and seats are superb.

As for the driving experience itself...Keeping in mind that this is a no nonsense, basic city car, I'd say it is perfectly adequate. I certainly was expecting a lot worse. Old design 8v engine is suprisngly quiet, smooth and free revving. The gearbox gets the most out of the engine. Brakes are excellent. My only serious complaint is the electric power steering - too light (even with "City mode" off) and delivers too little feel.

However, despite being sensible, boring and moderately powered automobile, it still has a loads of that special X-factor (character, pananche, whatever-you-like-to-call-it) that I find so appealing in Italian cars. So yes, I'm very pleased with my buy.

So the Coupe is gone?

Congratulations on your car.

You really do have a "point" with your post.

Sadly, yes... Nowadays its sweet 20v engine note can be heard in Finland.

I drove the same car of a friend of mine, and I was quite happy with the steering, maybe bacause I'm used to that of my dad's Croma which isn't very communicative (but it' wears 18" shoes...)

Yeah, I suppose the steering isn't too bad. Probably the fact that I sat straight from my company car (BMW 1-series) to Grande Punto is clouding my judgement.
