Guess how much for a dizzy cap?

A fellow member in an Australian M-B forum recently priced a distributor cap from an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer for his 25 y/o Benz 380SE (W126 similar to my car). For relevance I recently purchased the same item for Mrs nota's Falcon, which set me back $56

Care to guess what the listed quote was from the M-B dealer?

I might add, for perspective, that a brand new fuel distributor assembly (for the mechanical injection system) of the older 6.3 litre V8 (M100-series) motor, ie 6.3 SEL & 600 Grosser, will reputedly set you back a not inconsiderable AUD$27,000, ex-Germany.

No thats not a typo

Sorry for this but...

You can almost get a brand new C-Class for that price!

^ consider i can get nearly any air cooled 911 engine dropped into my car, completed and running, for $8,000 AUD, doing absolutely none of the work myself

$27k for a fuel distributor is simply immense!

^^ Dave I know, its ridiculous. No make that insane. You can appreciate why M100 owners tend to re-sleeve or reco their fuel 'blocks' instead of buying a new one! The factory can & will supply clients with virtually any part, for literally any model-year Benz. But the price can be mind numbing. Apparently the M-B factory has run out of NOS of this component and this is (or was, as-of last year) their price to manufacture a new one

Btw re that distributor cap price .. no, it did not include the rotor!

That is astonishing.

However if you had bought a, let's say, Alfa Romeo 6 it would cost 10 times less, but fail 10 times more.

Probably...

I'm awesome.
I think in the TG old luxo cars segment Jeremy said he had a "routine sevrice tuneup" on his Grosser for £25,000
