New bike time

My old streetfighter suffered a slightly catastrophic engine failure on the weekend, so time for a new bike!



Here it is. 2005 GSXR1000, 26k km, full Micron system, Ohlins steering damper, tinted double bubble screen, fender eliminator, new rearsets, braided lines, $12k with 3 months reg and new rear tyre. In damn good nick, only problem seems to be that the gear indicator is blacked out, looks like the LCD display died. Now if you'll excuse me, the weather's cleared, I'm off for a ride.

In most of Australia, it's usually not raining all of the time. Unless it was last summer in Sydney. But yes, one could conceivabley ride pretty much any time.

That bike is going to be able to destroy 99.9999%+ of things on the road in straight line acceleration and cost just a bit more than the cheapest new car on sale in Canada/USA.

Why the Gixxer and not another litre (or in the case of Ducati, 1.1L) sport-bike?

Very nice, what made you chose the 1000 over the 750?

My mates Dad had a K4 GSXR750 but just swapped it over for a K8, not having much luck with it, last week it was reversed into and knocked over, snapping the stand, by a van whilst paying for fuel and then a few days later a car changed lanes, knocked him off and drove off bending, cracking and scraping most of the bodywork.
I'm still waiting until I can run a bike and a nice car...
Hope you have better luck with it than with the 1st bike and the last one!

Motorbikes, no.

Why a Gixxer 1K ?
Cause it's a superb bike.
Typical Gixxer handling and the 1K power is sweet.
Personally the 750 is a little more nimble, lighter and faster turning.

BUT, Suzuki did the Gixxer 100 and then 600 adn then the 750 model came later.
Bak then I'd take the 1K, now I'd absolutely go for the 750 Besides it's the "classic GSX-R engine capacity"

THe Giixxer is good alreound. The R1 definately nimble, but you have to be a skinny kid to fit on it, The Kwaka, great but always the worry of the initial 10s engien troubles.
Honda lost the recipe for the 'blade for a while or it woudl have been equal top of the list. Duncati ? You serious ? THumping twin with horrenous vibrations and the service costs to kill you. Ducati marketing does a brillinat job of making a 1200cc bike look faster on the track than a 1000cc, they just conventiently ignore that when seeling the street bikes

The V-Twin is bad then eh? I was just thinking of competitors in that class. I guess the Honda CBR1000RR (didn't know it was known as the Fireblade - that's as sick name), Suzuki GSXR1000, Yamaha YZF-R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, and Ducati 1198 are the class competitors then? Just those 5? What are the advantages and disadvantages of them could anyone tell me as I know jack about bikes. I must say I like the look of the 1098 more than the rest of them though. The I4s are more about power than torque while the V-twins are more about torque yeah?
