Super lightweight new ride...

Check out my wikkid sikh new ride, yo! Or whatever the kids are saying nowadays. Anyway, it's a Honda CT110 ex Aus Post postie bike. Aww yea, I feel your envy. I had to get up super early to get it so that I could ride it to the mechnics to get a blue slip then head off to the RTA to get it rego’d, but hey.. I have a bike! It was also my first time riding on a road today.. so that was an experience... It’s a little pokey, but hey.. it was cheap. You may notice (if you notice these things) there’s no clutch lever.. it’s not an auto, it just has a centrifical clutch. Basically, you just change gears by dropping the revs and hitting the gear lever. It’s a bit odd, but riding around today I quickly got used to it. I got my learners recently so it’s all pretty new to me, riding about on roads without having to pedal.. not scary or anything though, just something different to do. I figure I can get some high-vis clothing and ride down the footpath now…

I was riding it about this arvo and it started stalling when idling.. the guy I bought it from reckons it's just because it's been sitting around for a while and cleaning the spark plug and such should help it out...

Were you inspired by Top Gear's Vietnam episode? It's time for a road-trip I'd say!

Congrats

Look like it's fairly well kept, and overall nice.

Admittedly, it's far from my kind of machine (Currently i'm thinking about buying a Ducati Monster, but my upcomming project will be stealing all my money). But it's a rather small engine, how many horses does that put out, some 8 or so?

But yeah, i could use a bike instead of my cycle theese days. I'm getting a bit lazy.

Nice starter bike, a friend of mine has a similar gearing set-up to you, downshifting on his is an absolute nightmare, whatever you try it lurches and locks up the rear wheel. I prefer full manual, but if you're brand new to riding this is a good start, have fun!!

Wouter: A little, but even before then this was the plan.

Matra: I don't know who they are, but they sound like fun..!

W.R.: Not a whole lot.. 70kph is all I've coaxed from it so far, I imagine if I thrashed it.. down a hill.. it might hit 80..

Buen: You're optimistic.. I think it was a bit over 7hp new.. and it's approaching 30K kms.. so yea. Not a whole lot..

Waugh: I think I'd prefer a full manual too, but this'll be a cheap way to get used to it, pass the full rider test and move on to a real bike... or decide I prefer four wheels and give it all up. We'll see...

SICK! There was 4 of these for sale at my local auctions for a touch over 1k each. Considered it but then decided a 6"6 bloke on a postie would get places faster if I walked

Looks like a solid purchase and def the perfect learner bike

'Two Wheels' motorcycle magazine ran a feature story back in the 1980s about a guy from Melbourne, a BIG guy who weighed 23 stone, who had one of those '"it seemed like a good idea at the time" moments. This was to take a budget-oriented trip to see and enjoy a tropical holiday in Cairns in Far North Queensland .. riding a CT90 ex-Postie!

IIRC it went like this:

The guy took 23 days out of his annual leave from work.
Trip time took 21 days for 5,6000 kms, riding virtually every daylight hour from pre-dawn until dusk.
Got to spend only two nights and one day in Cairns, most of it spent sleeping in a hotel room, recovering.
Then back on the bike again for a flat-out return journey to make it back home in time for work before his holdays ran out.

Congrats, very cool.
At least it's not a hardtail, that ought to keep chiropractor costs down.
