1989 Toyota soap-bar
Well, Seeing as there's abit of a bandwagon thread (and I haven't made a propper thread for my car) I thought I'd join the fun.
1989 Toyota Celica SX (ST185) (2.2 Inline 4pot - FWD) Is it practical? Concieved when cars were getting bigger and bigger, Size wise it isn't petite, however it is far from large. I find if I'm sitting entirely upright I require the sunroof open to avoid a concusive head injury during daily driving. Storage room is however minute, with a single glovebox with a protruding hinge (closes with less space than you assume) Elbow room is, perhaps for the average japanese gentleman adequite, but lacks space for my needs. Is it economical? For a 2.2 that hasn't been taken care of it gets roughly 10.0L/100K's, thanks no doubt to it's relatively long 5th gear (sitting at highway speeds its barely above 2,300RPM) Is it fun to drive? If your after a relaxing drive... well no. If your after a light hearted shuffle through twisties, it is enjoyable. FWD doesn't permit much oversteer, however it tracks true and straight unless there is a peble on the road, at which point all hell breaks loose. Will it break down all the time? It's a toyota, so no, it doesnt break down, but things break - it just keeps driving once its fallen off. Is it easy to park? No, fast steering rack and a horrific turning circle and rounded hidden corners make for a headache. What if I go to a Shopping Centre and get chased by baddies in a Corvette? Rip that E-brake and hope for the best baby! Is it green? No, Its white. Can I afford it? Yes, For 2,500 australian you too can have a shitbox like mine! What If I'm asked to take part in a beach assault with the Royal Marines? Front heavy with a nose like a typhoon sub, It would sink and then decide it can run on salt water and transport you and three marines deep into enemy lines. cel1.jpg ed1.jpg
