Need a New Car

So yesterday, while leaving the office in my VW R32, I cracked a rim and popped a tire on a pothole whilst driving on Chicago's lovely roads. Um the tires I like are about $225 per and double that for a spare OEM rim. I got to thinking, it is a 2004 with 17,000 miles, R32's hold their value well, after I fix it, maybe it will be time to sell it... Only I don't know what to get. Here's my cars so far....

The M3 which I drove to obliteration and several engine gaskets later I sold it due to garbage built quality and other disappointments. Was quite fun to drive fast though...

Got a good deal on this and think it may have the best stock exhaust sound of any car under $100k. It's been a blast but I would like to weigh some other options.

Now I'm still in college and I won't be driving the car in the winter because Milwaukee is a pain to park or drive in, I will be racing in the summer, I just don't know if I'm going to drive karts again or go back to cars, either way, I'll need a sporty car that is probably best suited for road courses and not autocross.

Can someone help me out with some ideas?

Probably between $10k at the lowest and $20k at best. I am trying to save as much as possible. If something awesome pops up then I might spend more, but for now, I'd rather pack it away.

how about a couple year old Evo or Sti? not my style, but they are fantastic cars that you can get pretty affordably these days.

UCP's favourite - the Miata?

I dunno you have a pretty broad range, can oyu focus it a bit more? There is so much out there, Coibalt SS, Mazdaspeed3 etc etc.

Why is the R32 going?

He cracked the rim and wants to sell it while it's somewhat new.

Yeah, I'd go for a slightly old Evo or STI.

You could also think about what Kitdy said, a Mazdaspeed3 or a Colbalt SS.

Have you thought about a S2000 though?

I've heard the S2K is literally only able to autocross, is not a good road racer, and not fun to drive day to day. Otherwise I actually was going to top my list with the the S2000.

What about a Corvette? What could you get for 10 to 20 grand?

Or maybe a 350Z?

any other requirements?
Like AWD or RWD, displacements, seats, trunk, comfort, luxury....?

I'd go for a Lotus, no matter which, even a second gen fwd Elan.

If he has reservations about an S2000, a Lotus is probably way too extreme.

Not at all, My M3 was completely gutted by the end and has racing brakes and suspension. My goal is to get a car I can drive and race once again. I'd prefer RWD but AWD is okay. I'm not sure I'll fit in an S2K as I'm 6'4" and 210lbs. I drove an Elise two months ago so I know thats not a problem but I doubt I can get one for a good price.

Corvette is a good choice for both daily use and track use. I would just need to find one with good miles and in solid condition. Any ideas where to start? The Z is a bit too fat. I drove one not too long ago and was bored. Plus I beat them on track in my R32 and I would like to go faster from there...

Check Auto Trader.

A Corvette would be awesome it must be said - I think they are good dailies too.

That'll be faster than your R32 as well.
