Date in Posts / Flags

I was on another forum just now and noticed that they post the month name written in the posts.

For example: Mar. 1, 2008 , 9:17 AM, instead of UCPs: 04-06-2008, 06:12 AM.

This is really nitpicking Wouter, but I just found it easier to read the month as opposed to have to count out in my head what month it is otherwise.

Call me stupid or laugh, I think it looks better and is easier to understand.

I assume this could be changed easily if you were to want to change it?

Another thing I saw on this forum was the capability for users to submit their own flags to be included on the nation list, I know some users feel they are not represented by the flag of their nation, but rather their country. Quebec comes to mind, as does Catalunya. Scotland has it's own flag, so why not other regions as long as they are reasonable requests form users?

Just some ideas.

Scotland is an independent country with their own parliament and football team, so they deserve their own flag.

Quebec is defined as a nation within Canada, and Catalunya is an autonomous region.

Quebec's provincial parliament is referred to as the national parliament.

The Canary islands are represented, why not Catalunya or Basque or Quebec?

Furthermore, Scotland is not an independent country. It is a country within a state, but in no way is it independent.

There are many flags that are not counties as well included in UCP's list, Australia's Aborignials, US Virgin Islands etc.

If some people want a different flag to represent themselves, I don't see what the big deal is. There is clearly provisions for other regions which are not countries, why can't other users decide which flag they want to represent them?

I mention Cataluny and Quebec as I know there is at least one user from each region that feels misrepresented by their state's flag.

I think it's a question of being sensible about this. I imagine most US States have their own unique flags. Are all of those going to be legitimate too? My village has its own flag. Should that be put on the system too?

You have to bear in mind the purpose of having these flags in the first place. They were uploaded onto the system as a way for people to be able to see clearly where a particular poster is from, thus eliminating all the "it would help if you told us where you're from" type questions whenever a new member starts an advice thread. If you start making things too particular and obscure, then that will potentially defeat the purpose. How many people in general are going to recognise the Catalunyan or Quebecois flag? I consider myself an intelligent and well read sort of person, but I couldn't tell you what either looked like.

The flags are not there for your benefit, for you to "represent yourself". They are there for the benefit of others, to help them get an idea of whereabouts you are. Don't over-complicate matters.
