Ultimatecarpage.com update (06-05-08)
Dear Ultimatecarpage.com visitor,
At 3pm local time on June 14th, 55 racing cars will take off for this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. The start of the race is a culmination of many months of preparation and a two week build up on site, which began with this weekend's Official Test. Usually the annual test gives first indication of the entrants' capabilities, but this year various showers prevented most cars from setting competitive times. What became clear was that Peugeot have brought the absolute quickest car and most likely the fastest sports racer ever built. With a lap time of 3:22.222 Alexander Wurz shaved four seconds off last year's pole position in less than ideal conditions. Audi is nevertheless still well within range, which should make next week's race the most tightly disputed in many years. There are high quality entries throughout the field and we expect close racing in all three of the other classes as well. This includes possibly the last battle between the Aston Martin DBR9 and the Corvette C6.R which will be fascinating to follow. Dozens of fabulous racing cars and some very talented drivers should make for a highly exciting edition of this legendary race. Despite the poor weather we managed to capture the entire field out on track and have compiled a fully illustrated entry-list and a class by class preview. We will be back at the track for qualifying and will capture the race in its entirety. You can expect a very well illustrated article on the Tuesday after the race. 24 Hours of Le Mans Preview and Entry-List http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/featu...s-Preview.html Regards, Wouter Melissen

Took me almost 30 minutes to get through the slideshow. Very nicely done Wout, hope the race coverage is as good.

It should be better. The poor weather and limited time available prevented me to get some more shots.

Yeah it took me a while. I have seen other photos from test day on other sites, but they frankly aren't as high-res or pretty as yours Wouter.
If not the best pictures on the web, they certainly amongst the best. Question about the Barazi-Epsilon with what if memory serves is an Angolan flag, what is the reason behind this? Also, was the track completely dry when Wurz set the 3:22 time, or is there more in the tank? I was only listening on the radio so it was hard to get a feel for how wet it was. Do you think if the conditions are right that the 908 can dip into the teens? |
