Completely Prodrive Effort |
RacingManiac 11-03-2005 |
IMO, the name Prodrive should be added to the name of this car. As the car was made pretty much entirely by Prodrive, with most dimension and specification based on a USED 550 Maranello that they acquired, reverse engineered all the drawings and spec that they needed(since Ferrari wouldn't give it to them), then they made all the necessary modification for the car to race. This car is much more of a "Prodrive" than it is a "Ferrari". A night and day difference between how Prodrive is treated now with the DBR-9 program. |

When it comes to kick ass cars, the Ferrari is right there. In 2002, they entered the last 3 races of the ALMS and ended up winning their FIRST race! In 2003 however, the Prodrive team managed to have captured two very significant races, which included the 2003 Michelin 24 Hueres du Mans, and the Petit Le Mans; also the fact that they were only ONE point away from a factory team effort when it came to manufacture points in the championship. So in my opinion, the only cars that would possibly beat this masterpeice would be the 2004 Prodrive Aston Martin DB9-GTR or (if they made one) a 2004 Oreca Dodge Viper GTS-R. |
2003 Le mans |

The #80 car finished an impressive 10th overall ahead of a few LMP900 and LMP675 cars, and 1st in the GTS class ahead of the Corvettes and Saleens. Another racing sucess for the Brits (Prodrive makes this car) |
Return to Le Mans |

Seeing a car as awesome as this makes you wish that Ferrari would get back into sportscar racing in a big way. Have a quick think of some of the most famous and valuable Ferraris in existance: 250 GTO, 250 Testa Rossa, 330P4, 250 LM, 250 GT SWB, etc. Sportscars all. F1 may be great, but what about a contemparary factory Ferrari team competing at Le Mans? Maybe if the new F1 cost-cutting measures work, Ferrari could tip their leftover dollars into a new 6.0 litre V12 LMP or GTP... |
