 959 engine

sorry mate but i find what you said to be highly unbelievable. just how did you friend come across a 959 engine? of the 200 built (give or take 5 or so) only 8 were destined for the states. of these, 4 were for crash tests which it failed. the others are held in customs. (not entirely sure about the numbers though) if you do a little research, you will find a list that tracks all exiztig 959s and their chassis+engine details and what happened to them. so the next time, before you decide to make something up, do a little reading...

i have a very close associate who own's a boxster s, and he also had a problem with it being too slow, so he went and chucked a aircooled 959 engine in it. and not an oridinary engine i'm talkin' about 550 bhp and the thing only weighs 1200 kg. The last thing you could do is call this thing slow, it still looks like a hairdressers car except for the 996 GT2 front spoiler.but my lord does it go.
 Price or cost of ownership?

"I own a 2000 Boxster S. I would like to encourage everybody who can afford the upfront payment to consider one. A car's real cost is the difference between resale and purchase price, plus the ongoing maintenance. I know no car that keeps its value better than the Boxster. Maintenance is not cheap, but still reasonable. And here's what you get: every single time I drove this car, no matter how my mood was before, I had a bright smile on my face and was happy for the day. The engine sound, the lovely handling, the firm hug of the sports seats, the ""thoroughbred"" feel, even the well controlled airflow around one's head - I just love it!"

"[email protected] grunted ""I can go buy a Corvette Z06 for $51,000 and it'll tear this car to pieces!"" ..... ""Gee, I wander why I see at least 20 corvettes a day on the road, and I get lucky if I see one Porsche."" Dsob15, thanks for your input. I think you've answered you own question here - you feel 'lucky' when you see a Porsche - would you not like people to think that about your car? The boxster has style, class, has an extremely balanced chassis/engine setup, sounds good, girls love them and above all it's made in Europe ... I'm enjoying mine. As for the corvette ripping it to shreds - have you not though of a fast mototbike ? - they are a lot cheaper (20,000 USD) and have performance comparable to 200,000 USD cars."

motorhead: Porshce parts avaliable everywhere? I've heard many cases in Singapore where-by a Porsche has gearbox problem and needed a change. Guess how much? S$40,000, which is about US$23,000! That amount enough can almost buy u a Nissan 350Z in the US! Here in Singapore, the Boxster S retails at about S$350,000. Can't blame, owning a car in Singapore is the most expensive in the world. If u have to compare this car, it would be pitted against the Nissan 350Z and Audi TT V6, and some other rivals. In Singapore, this will never be comparable as the Nissan costs about S$170,000. Among the 3, i'll take the Porsche if i have the money, coz it is a very very well-balanced car. The reason why Porsche refused to fit an engine which has more power than a 911 is because if this happens, the 911 will lose its appeal! Hope a replacement will come soon, as the design looks a little tired and the Boxster is very threatend by the presence of the new Nissan 350Z.

If you want the boxter to have more power what is a 911 for. The boxters looks are very good but not 911 good. If you are not happy with the power you have a problem. Like what colin chapman said(founder of lotus)if you want maximum fun don't go above 40MPH. Any car is very responsive and just imagine a lotus or porsche for that matter. These two companies are not like lamborghini or ferrari. The two italians make cars which blasts through straights with ease but have major difficulties through bends or corners. Porsche and lotus are a reputation about handling. They both do them very well especially lotus. But porsche also has the power to fly through a straight and fly through a corner after that. Then there is the price. It is much lower then any ferrari or lambo and they are much more realible and have ready avalible parts everywhere maybe not so much lotus but porsche. There are porsche parts everywhere. Topless fun at its best!!

I have no problem admitting that the Boxster S is overpriced, but you guys have NO idea. I don't know what one retails for over there, but here in England we have to pay 34,000 for one, which is equivalent to almost $50,000 so don't bitch about it being expensive there! You guys get the best deal in town! Here, I have Mini Cooper S, one of the old original ones that you've probably never heard of, but that's just due to a lack of heritage on your part, and the fact that Americans don't give a damn about any country other than theirs. For the same money I paid for my 9 foot long car with a 1275cc in line four cylinder with 90hp, you could have a second hand Z71 with all the trimmings, one of those F-150's with the powerstroke diesel or the 5.4 Triton V8, or whatever you want in the car market! And don't even get me started on fuel prices! Get your fat ass over here and pay $250 road tax, 17.5% on everything you buy, insurance premiums that, for me, on that shitty lil 1275cc car run up to about $4,000 even though I've never had an accident, and then buy the damn expensive cars, THEN you can bitch that everything's expensive! How much is a litre or gallon of gas out there now? I have no idea, I know there was a big fuss when it went over a dollar. Oh no, a whole dollar. Try paying $8 a gallon, then you can bitch your ass all the way back to the US of A. You don't have a CLUE what expensive means!

I have to agree the car is overprice, since its import-tax and limited production control. But again the daily drive is all worth it. I agree the Vet, Viper, Z or the Camero is great price per Horse. But again the quality of the ride is not even close to compare with the porsche. I'm a porsche fan, but still I have some comments about them. I bought Boxster S since I think the 911 is like a VW-beetle with long nose and buttless. Porsche will not make the Boxster Turbo because it can kill the damn 911 markets. FUK THEM. I think they should go back to 959 GT2 or make the boxster more meatier with 400 HP. In fact thats what I'm going to do with my Boxster S. later GUYS
 Whatever...

The boxter may be the most over-rated overpriced sports car clone to ever be sold for over $30,000. I like my porsches air cooled and elegant, not cookie cutter cheapy 911s with such poor acceleration and power to weight ratios that a simmilary priced Corvette would laugh at!

Meh, the real jewel in Porsche's crown is the 911's. The Boxster S is by no means a bad car, but it's not what you'd buy if you were looking for speed, especially at the asking price for what it is. The brakes are good, and the engine is good and the car is quality, it's just that if you want a real Porsche experience, save your pennies for a 911 Turbo or GT2.
 This car is over priced!

I can go buy a Corvette Z06 for $51,000 and it'll tear this car to pieces! For that matter it would even run with the 911 Turbo, which by the way is over $100,000. If Chevy can make a car that fast for $51,000 and also very stylish outside and inside, why can't porsche? Gee, I wander why I see atleast 20 corvettes a day on the road, and I get lucky if I see one Porsche. No normal person is going to go buy a Porsche Boxster S for $63,000 when they can just go and buy the Corvette for 12 to 15 grand less, and it will tear the Boxster up! Corvette is the way to go!
 How about the BiTurbo GTR?!?!

Sorry Guyz, but the boxster S doesn't live to the expectations. Sure its Porsche and a good all rounder, but it can't even face up to tha Honda S2000. And the S2000 with 20 horses less can still outperform it. But U want tha real deal, then step up to the BiTurbo GTR Baby! Ladies and Gentlemen, this iz the Boxster to have. I bought mine 2 months ago and can't let go since. I wipe anything and everything that stands in my way. With 450 bhp and 520 Nm of torque at yur disposal u can do all tha wiping u need. And jus to show how much i loved the car, i went down to a tuner and got myself a lil bump in power. I now have 520 bhp and 610 Nm of torque giving me the chance to go head to head with tha boxsters older brothers. I know ya'll wouldn't believe me if i told u, but seeing iz believing and i haven't seen! I've done. I took out a Lamborgini GT, the Gemballa Turbo 550 and a sweet HKS Supra stone COLD in a street race and remianed there till 175 MPH till the bigger engines started to close in real slowly. Now thats something to have lyin in yur garage!

"I've had my metalic black Boxster S for two years now, and believe me it's one fantastic motor. OK, it's not the fastest sports car around, but on the twisty bits it'll leave almost anything else for dead and the confidence it inspires in the driver is incredible. If you've got one and haven't had it on a race track yet, then hurry up and get on with it. You can't possibly appreciate this car until you push it to the limits. I took my on a Harewood Hillclimb training day (near Leeds in England) and the instructor couldn't believe the speed that the car was maintaining on the track. I had similar comments from the instructor at Knockhill Race Track in Scotland, he was a 911 fan but reckoned the boxster was in a different league, i.e. better. If you;re not convinced, try to find the ex F1 driver (Rockingham Speedway owner) Jonathan Palmer's comments on the Boxster via the internet."""

"I may be the only actual Boxster S owner here (just traded up from a 1999 standard Boxster) so I'd like to put my two cents in. I wanted a car without all the extras (less weight, more power); just the standard cool stuff (only option was the colored Porsche crest on the wheels and the windblocker). To the guy who said he'd buy a Datsun... sorry Nissan ... 350Z, I've seen one (in orange, no less) and he can have it, but he won't get one for $25K and he won't have a Porsche. To those who thought the look is outdated, I can just say, I love its look and get excited everytime I open the door to the garage. This is reinforced when I start her up. While the standard Boxster was great fun once you got her going, the ""S"" literally screams away from the traffic lights, leaving the kids in the Civics, Accuras and BMWs (I also have a 528i) gasping. Once we get into the mountains, only the crotch rockets are going to pull away. But keep it below 4500 rpm and it's as docile as an old Labrador retriever. Judging by the thumbs up and the positive comments people make, the public likes it, as well. I'm still breaking it in (officially, not supposed to go over 4500 until a thousand miles, although I've, uh, slipped a few times) and she'll still pin you in your seat. In sixth gear, at 3000rpm, you're cruising at 81 mph and you've still got 3500 or so left. This is my fifth consecutive Porsche and by far the most fun to drive of all. Boy am I going to get in trouble with this car!"""

Sure you can get a Nissan for half the price. But its still just a Nissan and not a Porsche !!! Besides the Nissan is ugly. Its looks like they forgot to build it with the door handles, so they just glued them on the outside.
It was a good car, now it's better.

"I've seen these Boxster (2003) in Zuffenhausen this summer, and they made several improvements. Of course the car is basically the same, the metal body parts are the same, they changed bumpers spoiler and air intakes' grille, the foldable roof, now with a new structure, more resistent and profiled and with glass window. Plus mechanical improvements ...so it IS a better car. Still I think this car with middle engine is potentially a better sportscar than the 996; I would really like to see a supercharged version of this one with larger body on the back to house a more powerfull unit ...just try to imagine a Boxster turbo ...wouldn't that be great? And have you ever seen a Boxster equipped with the optional speedster roof lid? I've seen a blacklack leather 2002 S with turbo rims with this feature, it looks great. If you're ever going to buy a Boxster spend a few more money to have this piece added."""

OK, I have always been impressed with the Carrera, but the Boxster has to be one of the all-time worst wastes of money on a car. Sure, I can get this Boxster S for 50K...or I can go spend 26K on a new 350Z, and when they line up, the guy in the Porsche gets his feelings hurt. Hmmmm

I dont know if any of you own a porsche, or if you just dont think that they are a high quality vehicle. But I have driven one of the new Boxster S models, and let me tell you there is no way they could make that car any better. The only thing that they could do would be to give it more power. You say that they should change the design, but that is what Porsche looks like, and that is what they will always look like. Even the new Carrera GT2 looks similar to Porsche body styles. Dont be a player hater just because you dont like it, it is an awesome car and an awesome design.

to say the least Porsche really doesnt need to chage there design because they are still the leading sports car company by far. Plus Porsche doesnt have much time to work with these models cause of there new cars for 2003.....Cayenne and the crazy Carrera GT.
 Its the same car!!!

its the exact same car as the previous year. 7 hp dooesnt make a difference. Porsche, if u want to make sales, change your design. Your competition is coming out with countless innovations for 2003, and you're still showing us old stuff!
