Honda V6 Turbo |

Apparently the Honda RA168-E engine only produced around 650 bhp with 2.5 Bar boost in 1988 and not the 900 quoted here. 900 bhp is what the Honda RA167-E produced with 4.0 Bar boost in race trim in 1987. |
Honda Power? |
wombat666 08-01-2013 |
I think it was not a case of 'Honda Power' in the MP4/4, more efficient packaging by both Honda and the Gordon Murray/Steve Nichols design team. Lotus ran the same engine in a car that was an epic fail, simply through bad design 'packaging'. Regarding the reputed output of the Honda, I well remember my delight in seeing Ivan Capelli driving the normally aspirated Judd powered March past Senna's McLaren on the main straight in the Portuguese GP. Kudos to McLaren for an outstanding design, even if it made for a rather predictable race season! |
Honda Engine Power Specs |
JLPENTS 07-10-2013 |
In the SAE PAPER 890877 Osamu Goto and his engineering staff have exposed the facts about Honda 1988 F1 Engine. In that PAPER the maximum power is specified as 685BHP at 12500RPM using 2.5 BAR turbo boost. This number is considerably lower that the 900HP described in this article. |
