Good first attempt at all wheel drive

Since Saab has been lagging in the all wheel drive market for the last two decades it makes perfect sence for Big Brother GM to jumpstart the struggling Swedish company. Saab obviously couldn't do it on their own. I like the idea of a proven all wheel drive platform with a Euro body style. I've been impressed with the WRX for years but have a problem with the exterior looks. Interior on the 9-2X looks fine. What do you expect for 25K? My only complaint would be for more HP. But how many people actually race?

"First of all, don't get me wrong, the Subaru WRX is a very fine automobile. But this newest ""Saab"" is profoundly sacrilegious. Saab has finally joined the ranks of automotive marques that have sold out on their heritage and automotive roots. (Remember how you felt when the Porsche Cayenne came out?) That's the exact same feeling I have when I first laid eyes on this Saabaru. Saab has lost its creative quirky edge. But I guess you can't blame them too much, GM is responsible for this. I feel sorry for Swedes who saw their brand be bought out Corporate America, then have the audacity to market a Japanese made car that wont even be sold in Sweden. Totally outrageous. Thanks GM for ruining Saab's mystique."

This car is disappointing. I know Saab and Subaru have joined forces... but a blatant cut-and-paste effort? Please... Saab being a luxury brand and all cannot just rip-off an Impreza and call it theirs. True, with WRX under-pinnings , this car could be a class leader, in doubt, in the performance and handling stakes. But surely they can restyle this totally ? I can see an Impreza Wagon from the A-pillars back. And the dash board is like completely Japanese and Impreza! This wouldn't do. True, both brands are mavericks butdiffrenciation is important. Especially for Saab if it really intends to go head-on againsts Volvo, Merc and BMW . Try harder. The customers are NOT blind.

There is no mention in the description above that this car is really a re-skinned Impreza WRX wagon. After all, GM owns most of Saab and a portion of Subaru. Not that that's bad (I own a WRX wagon and I absolutely love it), but I question whether a lot of people will pony up $25K+ for what is essentially an economy car. The performace is there, the reliability is there ... but the quirkiness that Saab owners have come to expect may be lacking. Plus, what about the fit and finish? While I feel it is good, is it on par with what customers expect in a luxury automobile? That will be decided in the showrooms.
