I have looked back nostalgically on the days of my youth when small, cheap, fun sports cars were everywhere. Bwtween my dad and I we had Triumph TR3 & TR4's, MGB and Midget, Sprite, Alpine, Fiat 124 Spider, Alfa 1300 and Volvo 544's. They were easy to buy and easy to own. Is it possible that Pontiac and Dodge (along with Smart) can introduce a new generation to the fun of the small, cheap sports car? I sure hope so!
Dodge HAS to produse this car.

Since it looks so much like a mini-viper (in my opinion) yet performs nowhere near the big snake, I think this car would do alot for Dodge's image, kinda creating a reverse Halo effect and sort of complimenting the sheer performance strenght of the SRT models. Actually, for a good price, like under 16 grand, this car would tap a previously untouched market and gain Chrysler lots of profit and fans for this sexy little car. But while they're at it, they should throw in an SRT level of this car that can perform more like the other current Dodge Concept, the Razor. I think the Razor is ugly, but this car is a beauty. If they were to combine the looks of the Sling Shot with the power of the Razor, it would be amazing. And then they could call it a Razorshot!!!! haha
a good prospect for an emerging market

The Slingshot does indeed bear a very strong resemblence to it's European-only cousin Smart roadsters (all part of the Daimler-Chrysler collective, this is not necessarily surprising). The Slingshot would be a great way for Dodge to break into the small, affordable roadster market and to do it by leveraging a proven design. If they can and do bring this to market anytime soon, Dodge could use it to counter GM's Kappa platform, claiming an economical advantage. Plus D-C would not have to worry about competing with themselves, as Smart is not planning on releasing anything in the US market for a couple years, and even then their roadster is not, as of this time, part of those plans. I, for one, would be interested in a vehicle of this type.
