so i talk about my mini all the time, and the only pic ive shown is my avatar. today was a really nice day, so i scrubbed all the salt, dirt, and brake dust off and made it pretty again. i figured that this would be a good chance to take some pics of it, and share them with my UCP bretheren. enjoy.

Cool looking car. My parents are thinking about buying one in the spring time, i got a few questions for you, what mileage do you get, anything bad about it, how is the performance? thanks in advance :)

ok, since im in the military, my home of residence is NC, i just live in VA. and in NC we dont have to have plates on both sides (one of the reasons i havent registered my car here, it would be a crime to spoil the front end)

and next, the mileage has averaged out to 28 mpg, but this is with my lead foot helping it along. the performance is great. its not as fast as some cars, but it is way more enjoyable to drive. i compared it to the vw gti 1.8t, and while it was a more practical car, it was no fun to drive. this car keeps you on the edge of your seat.

negatives? its small. very small. i knew that buying it, but i didnt realize just how small it is. there is plenty of room in the front seats, very comfortable, but the back it tiny, and the "trunk" space is next to nothing. for a weekend away with just the two of us, we had to fold down the back seat for luggage. there are some little irksome things, one of the door pannels rattles when the bass is really turned up. i am going to have that fixed when its serviced. the wipers suck, which has ben a nother common complaint from a lot of owners, but that can also be taken care of under warranty. i think thats about it.

as a side note, after a ride in my mini, my fiance's mother went out and ordered a convertible with the works package...im jealous. i am wanting to get it but being a youg college grad, i cant really afford it.

..if everybody carries their luggage on their laps, and if they have no legs, and they only bring a backpack's worth.... then youre alright

Watch out for the sunroof and windows opening at random times.
This was supposed to have been fixed but friends Mini Cooper decided to do it during some of the heavy rains a few weks back. Returned to VERY wet seats !!!
So far they've not given here a reason for it having happened and are refusing to accept it's a repeat of the early problems. ( Not such an issue for you guys with low precip !! )

They still make the semi-original design under the Rover Badge, you know.

Correct - over 4 YEARS ago :(

but the good news is, looks like we're resurrecting a 1961 competition Cooper for rallying :)

I am still hesitant to call this new BMW a Mini, that name will forever be connected to the Issigonis designed little wonder. The BMW is a neat and nippy car with a high fun factor but if there had not been a real Mini before that I doubt many people would buy it.

Bore, this is actually my 4th car.. first one that i bought on my own. first was a 1987 BMW 325, still my favorite car that I've owned, although the mini is close. Second was a 1993 Isuzu Pickup (crappy), and then a 1993 Honda Accord (boring).

Matra, havent had any problems as of yet, other than the ones i mentioned above. Still have another couple of hundred miles before it needs its first servicing too. first oil change at 11K, how cool is that.

Henk, yeah, im inclined to agree with you. this isnt a real mini, but it does capture a lot of the essences of the original, all the while being a good, very reliable, comfortable, daily driver that im not worried about being flattened like a pancake. later on, when i can afford a second car, i would love to get a real one, and use it for playing on the weekends. but i disagree about people not wanting to buy it. it is a fantastic little car that really is a screamer. excellent chassis, gearbox, engine, everything. i could use a little more power, but i hope to be able to afford the works for it in a year or two. i have seen it in a large number of magazine comparisons since buying it, and i have never seen it lose. european and american mags, against all forms of competition.

i still love it.

My Mini was the transport for our honeymoon :)

The only problem was as we tried to leave at night from the party. They had lifted it on to milk crates. Poor wee Mini sitting with it's wheels in the air. Me being me ( and my wife the same ) we just shugged and went back to enjoy the party for longer till they put it back on the road. It's a great wee car for ALL OCCASIONS !!!!
