Im sure theres no one here who dislikes this car... its pretty much and all around favorite. about 400rwhp and 500nm make it pretty much the fastist sports sedan in the world. i have heard here and there of mod chips, that involve removing power limiters, modifing the CPU, installing new EMSs ect... that can get it near 700rwhp!!!! does anyone no of any of these in existance??

do you realise youve said the M5 has 400 rear wheel horsepower?

yes i did, was i wrong?

well those almost 400 horses were found at the flywheel

ok, would that mean bhp would work better?

Well, there are certainly no "power limiters" per se, unless you mean removing the catalytic converter, but that's nothing to do with electronics. There is really no way that you could get 700rwhp (or 700bhp) from a new/reprogrammed ECU.

DINAN makes a pretty mean M5, however... (and this is straight from their website):

"For the first time in nearly 20 years, BMW has provided the driving enthusiast with all of the power that can be mustered as a result of engine management tuning. BMW detonation control systems, high speed engine management computers and sophisticated "adaptations" have left no horsepower for we tuners to extract; as much as we hate to admit it!"

So to answer your question... what you have heard "here and there" is completely fictitious. :)

As far as tuning M5s goes, the largest gains outside of forced induction seem to be from larger throttle bodies, tuned velocity stacks, and exhaust manifolds. All of this, naturally, is mechanical, and the three of these combined (in DINAN tune) will produce an additional 70hp/60lbs-ft.

even still, the most your ever going to really gain from ECU mods is about 20-40kw and thats on the worst of engines, let alone a BMW V8

this is gonna sound pretty weird but... the reason i brought this up is because i was lookin at a pic of the M5 and i remembered when i was like 8-10 years old i saw this show on TV about a guy who basicaly put some laptops in his trunk and modded some of the electronics. he said he got more than 600 bhp out of it. so basicaly im remembering a distant, and true memory :)

Well unfortunately, according to DINAN, there's really nothing left to be squeezed from the M5's ECU, even with two laptops in the trunk :). Could you be thinking of another model of M5?

good question, im pretty sure this is it though, and who is DINAN

DINAN is one of the most respected BMW tuners in the world. They most certainly know what they're doing.

When did I say that?

An exact quote of something I said earlier was "As far as tuning M5s goes, the largest gains outside of forced induction seem to be from larger throttle bodies, tuned velocity stacks, and exhaust manifolds. All of this, naturally, is mechanical, and the three of these combined (in DINAN tune) will produce an additional 70hp/60lbs-ft."

There are many mechanical aftermarket parts for the M5, some of which I acknowledged. The only thing I said was that DINAN reports that there are no direct power gains available from a reprogrammed ECU (Electronic Control Unit).

I did in no way at all deny that there were parts available for the M5 :) I hope this clears things up a little...

Hey 16-4Veyron.

Here are some hard core facts from Europe..
a German company called G-power makes a 750 Bhhp+ M5 engine.

But not only with the ECU. There has been put on a supercharger..
G-power makes a 470 BHP upgrade only by changing software and exhaust...

I had mine made by G-power and it is just about 500 Bhp and 630 NM topspeed 323 KM/h

Damn, my best friend got a BMW E39 M5 with 460hp. We are looking for an upgrade of 700+ hp. I know that we can do it but where and how much...that's the question.

Tell me what kind of budget you are running for making a 700 Bhp + M5 and I can tell you whats missing and whats not.

Heres an example so I hope you are sitting down .-)
The german company were I buy my parts charge 60.000$$$$$ for 700? bhp upgrade.....

What you ca do yourself is ofcourse to buy all the parts and make it your self.
But be careful the BMW Aluminum cylinder heads are not very realiable when it comes to heat.....

Ohh and by making 700 bhp be sure to change the driveshaft and drivetrain.. Mine broke when adding a superharger.. 3, to 4 gear KKAABBOOOMMMMMM :D

This is my friend who wants to upgrade his M5. the budget?? it's not a problem maximum 90000$. In fact he wants to upgrade this M5 or just buy another car like a TVR Tuscan. I think 90000$ is a good budget for this kind of mods.

You guys should stop thinking and take action instead thats why German are way ahead on tuning BMW´s than a y other people in the world. they don´t think and think they take action.

No I'm asking this cause the plate on your car is not from germany. It's from the denmark.
I can affirm that this car is not yours and you don't own a BMW M5 E39.

How can I affirm a such thing?? ok just click on this link and you will understand

I don't really understand how this is insulting, if that's how you meant it. Swissbeatz seems to think you did, but you can hardly "OWN" someone with such a faulty argument.

1) You claimed to have a seriously awesome car on the internet, and don't get me wrong, when someone does that, they usually tend to be 14-year-old wannabes who are blatantly lying. So really, there's no reason to say we're being stubborn. It's not like we outrightly said that you didn't own it, we just said that we had a hunch, because 90% of the time, that hunch is correct. If it was yours, congratulations, your car is awesome. But Swissbeatz already proved you were lying.

2) The Japanese are above and beyond everyone else when it comes to tuning Japanese cars. Does this mean that Germans are lathargic and uninspired, because they're busy "thinking and not taking action"? Not at all.

The Germans are best at tuning BMWs because BMW is a homeland company. Americans tend to be best at tuning Vipers and Corvettes. Does this mean that the Germans are too lazy to do it? Obviously not.

Besides, who was even expressing any hatred at all towards German Cars/Tuners? We weren't talking about that at all...
