I was looking for a VZ HSV GTO pic and came accross some  Monaro and some shocking GTO's.
Have a look what do you think?

01-17-2005, 04:44 PM

Colty

those racing stripes look pretty crap on the monaro

fpv_gtho

I kinda like the yellow with black stripes one, although with the bodykit it looks alot like the Just Cars Nations Cup Monaro 427.......now that was a mouthful

Interesting variants on a good looking car. Not all hits though.

i like the 2 door BA falcon that was featured in a mag ages, imo looked better than the monaro, but really lacked build quality and refinment.

fpv_gtho
01-17-2005, 11:24 PM
The only BA coupe ive seen was a lame arse attempt at it. Take an XR8, remove the rear spoiler, raise the roof, play around with the doors and there you go, no engineering marvel about it.

Blitz_
01-18-2005, 12:34 AM
ive seen quite a few attempts at it, most of them were in the Ford Performance mag or something, around 5 conversions done by ppl around australia, some are pretty good, some r shockers.

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 03:27 AM
The engineering effort involved to make a good one IMO isnt worth it, Hilliar charge $30k just for a 2 door conversion for instance. A really good coupe should follow the Monaro's cues: higher boot, lower roof, longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs. Its next to impossible to affordably do that so why really bother?

Blitz_
01-18-2005, 03:31 AM
coz its good for public reaction so that ford may have some info on wether or not, in the near or distant future, they may make a few designs or concepts.

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 03:39 AM
The last good 2 door conversion i saw was the first, the AEC 300+. That has been the only, read "ONLY" 2 door Falcon worth looking at of late. The Autotek/Hillier Arrow was pig ugly with the grafted MB lowered front with V8 Supercar inspired bodykit and that blue BA XR8 coupe looks like it would fit in with a London double decker.

yo fpv, can you link a site of any 2 door fords? quick search revealed nothing but carp..

so anyhelp.

Theres not much around, alot of the stuff from AEC is pretty old, i think there "secretly" developing a BA 400+ but thats running out of time if they plan on getting buyers. They'd be pretty held back with the Bullet SS roadsters. http://www.advancedengine.com/asx_past/asx150302.html theres a bit of info down the page there, but it was written like 2002 so when they say they hope to be selling them next financial year.......well dont get your hopes up.

Hillier im pretty sure still have the $30K conversions going providing you give them the donor car. This should be where some stuff on the Arrow is: http://www.autotek.com.au/go.cfm?section=our_products

Heres some pics of the 300+ though at the MMS

mmmmm i rememba that car, id take that ova a monaro any day

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 04:16 AM
Its my favourite sleeper type AU, the T3 TS50 is my favourite. With the BA's, the GT/XR6T are my favourite and the HP320's the sleeper

Blitz_
01-18-2005, 04:58 AM
hmm i heard the Arrow was one helluva car

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 05:01 AM
Yeah, one hell of a shitbox. The diamond bonnet bulge was ugly, the V8 Supercar rear wing blocked rear vision, the droppier than normal front with the Mercedes Benz headlights would scare a baby and the engine was less refined and rougher than an Ecotec

Might be the one i seen had a funny long rear and tall roof wasnt crash hot really. The Au attempt was better its Au droop just fit in better.

But really the 2 door Ford coupes have got a long way to go before they can even be on the same book as the Monaro. the 300+ was really the best one made.

I have the book of the arrows Au, it was like Fast and the furious meets martin yan lol:p

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 08:27 PM
Mind you, had the Monaro not been made, we'd be having coachbuilders coming up with some dodgy looking Monaro wannabe's as well. I think raising the boot is the hard part, something they either dont do, or try and cover by raising the rear suspension and chopping the roof :p

SlickHolden
01-18-2005, 08:30 PM
Thats true we could have a 2 door bus :p
Lucky they seen holden could build cars, I read about Holden making cars that the US made into there own a little like the Omega Commodore this was 50's.

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 08:34 PM
Well GM-H started out in Australia simply as coachbuilders, building GM cars afterall

Heres an AU Coupe aswell.

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 09:00 PM
Yeah thats the BA Coupe that i hate, raised roof, nothing special about the back end and they still charge $30K. At least the Hillier guys increase the front and rear window rake, lower the roof and muck around with the rear quarters to make it look like a factory effort

But they also built bodys for Mini and others.

But you know how the (HMBB) Holden motors and body builders. Were formed from J.A Holden & Co the pom imagrint. Then they went to. Holden & Frost sets up Holden's Motor Body Builders (HMBB) I wounder who this frost is ??
But then They become they soley body builders for GM.
Then GMA was formed Genral motors Australia.
Then they merged GMA and HMBB together to become GM-H.
Now just holden LTD.
But i would love to know when GM first bought into Any part of holden thats one thing that has me boggled, And also when did they take over 100%
See this is how i think they went..

You got JA holden who was a saddlery. You got the Body builders which were Australian group who built bodys for just about anyone.
Then later JA holden started to build bike sidecars i think and he then got into body building, So the 2 got together and merged and made (HMBB). Which then was employed by GM to build there bodys and they were the best and biggest outside of north america.
Then GM decided to go under one banner here and made themselves (GMA)
Then i guess they waved some big $$$$ towards (HMBB) And got them to merge in with them and build all GM bodys cars and be there face of OZ as GM-H.
So guessing they would have the biggest share 60-40 i guess there muscel would have over taken it to be fully 100% GM now.
This might not be the place for this but its something that has intreged me over the years. Cause i see GM as one big bully that powers over everyone and gives them the 10 count and KO. I'm even sure if Ford wasnt as big as they are they would try and buy them out to:p

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 09:17 PM
I believe GM-H has been operating in the country in some form or another since 1919, which undercuts Ford's Geelong plant by 6 years for local production. They reckon though that Holdens only 99% GM owned or something, cause somewhere in all the fineprint theres still some decendant of the original HMBB guys with a percentage

SlickHolden
01-18-2005, 09:28 PM
They would still maybe get some money from them, Smart guys:D
Good mix holden is
Holden GM Aussie
^^^ ^^ ^^^
JA Holden YANK Body Builders

Hey i'm just glad it's not 100% GM then i got 1% to stick it up the ones that said in the U.S forum they U.S own Holden, this would be me nananananana not 100% :p:D

fpv_gtho
01-18-2005, 09:41 PM
Well its still a US controlling interest so whats the point really :p Its like GM only buying 80% of Daewoo, onve theyve got 51% they can make all the decisions

SlickHolden
01-19-2005, 03:24 PM
But they dont have it all lol:p
But one thing GM own the major controlling part of Holden, But still Holden and Ford are registerd trademarks in this country and are Australian companys, No matter who owns them they are here and they are Aussie, It's heaps differnt to say mcdonalds or KFC they move around the world, It's more like kraft.

Blue Supra

the white one looks like a 03 magna:confused:

SlickHolden
01-19-2005, 05:47 PM
Only not as ugly:p

The last pic of the GTO is fro the movie the last chase. It starts with the GTO judge in the 60's and when it gets up into 2004. They steal a new 04 GTO and rice it. Not to bad the movie and i swear i seen paul walker walk past for a flick? not sure

Blitz_
01-19-2005, 06:21 PM
Is it just me or do the AU coupe attempts look better than the BA, weird

fpv_gtho
01-19-2005, 07:21 PM
Probably cause the only idiot to attempt chopping a BA thought it wise to increase the head room by bulging the whole roof...someone should tell him he should by a Tarago if he wants headroom :p

SlickHolden
01-19-2005, 09:06 PM
Thats true it should have got a 1-2" Chop and raised boot to fit in better.

fpv_gtho
01-20-2005, 05:17 AM
That would at least give it a coupe profile. Theres nothing worse than having a coupe called a 2 door sedan, especially when the profile looks especially like that

SlickHolden
01-21-2005, 05:56 PM
The Au was best easy, But that BA looks like a 4 door made to 2 door:D And thats not what you really want hey.

fpv_gtho
01-21-2005, 09:42 PM
Not for $90K no :p

And the Monaro is a tough ask at $60K :p

SlickHolden
01-23-2005, 02:11 PM
$90k Ohh my god:eek: Didnt know it was that much.

fpv_gtho
01-23-2005, 06:50 PM
Well....

$50K for the XR8

$30K for the 2 door conversion and f**king up the roof

$10K for options and onroads :p

SlickHolden
01-24-2005, 02:07 AM
If i was going to do that i would ask them to lower the roof since i'm paying that much out i'm sure they would or they would loose me.

If i was going to do that i would ask them to lower the roof since i'm paying that much out i'm sure they would or they would loose me.

since i'm not that tall, i'd ask them to lower the roof about 5 inches :) even on the sedans, they'd probably look a little better with a shorter roof

fpv_gtho
01-24-2005, 02:15 AM
It'd be possible, there wouldnt be the 1 fixed design that they ONLY made.

SlickHolden
01-24-2005, 02:20 AM
If your willing to pay that much tell them what you want it's your car and you want it right. Just a little lower on the roof from standard and it's fine:D

SlickHolden

07 GTO has some Coupe4 in it and Torana also? Could this be the VE ?

fpv_gtho
01-24-2005, 02:31 AM
Yeah, or Magnao/Camry with those headlights depending on what angle you look at them. I thought they wanted it to be a "Muscle" car

2ndclasscitizen
01-27-2005, 08:07 PM
Definite EVO X cues and it probably looks like the Coupe4 cause there's probably plans to make a GTO AWD and also VE will most likely have the flared arches for AWD

fpv_gtho
01-27-2005, 08:26 PM
Those wheels on the yellow one look like theyre off the Coupe4 concept or F6 actually....But looking at it now i think the bonnet's too sleek, like the VT still. I think it'll have the raised bonnet style like on the Mazda3 and a couple of other new cars coming out now

2ndclasscitizen
01-27-2005, 08:28 PM
hopefully holden will have to so they can ditch the variable manifold on the alloytec and just put a normal one in

fpv_gtho
01-27-2005, 09:21 PM
I dont see a problem with the one its got other than it looks like the turtle shell on the Gen3. The ideas good, it gives the Ford 6 a good kick down low when its on the long runner and good top end with the short runner

SlickHolden
01-27-2005, 10:19 PM
That cover seems to do something maybe it help with air flow? It's looks Gen3 only not as bad:)

2ndclasscitizen
01-28-2005, 05:49 AM
the idea is that it open and closes on the inside to improve airflow because they couldnt fit a full sized one under the bonnet with the DOHC heads

SlickHolden
01-28-2005, 10:09 AM
Buldge anyone;):p

2ndclasscitizen
01-28-2005, 08:14 PM
bulge with a hole for a huge cold ram air intake

fpv_gtho
01-28-2005, 10:55 PM
If you have a look around the LS1 forums, theres a couple of people that have tried that with the VZ Monaro, i think one guy simply sat a paint tray on his engine had had it ducting from one of the vents into the intake. The idea of it is sound, but you might find youself putting alot of bends all over the place to route the air so that would suck up some power by slowing the intake charge
