Hi there,

Are there any lovers of this beautiful car here?

I would like to meet people on this forum who have some information, photos and experiences and who simply adore this Italian icon.

I just bought GT junior and I am in the process of converting it into GTA.

I attach some pics od original GTA stradale.

This is indeed I marvellous car, one of the most beautiful Italian road cars ever made, in my humble opinion. However, I know little about the technical aspect of these Alfa's, I only know they are prone to rust. I suggest you buy a detailed book on the GTA.

Hi,

Yes indeed, this car is prone to rust more than some other models. I've read that every 5 years you have to restore the bodyshell....but we'll see. My car was restored recently so I hope it will hold next five years!

There are great books out there. Best one is "Allegerita" from T. Adriaansens and "GTA" by M. Tabucchi. They are expansive, but worth every penny.

What makes this car really cool is its racing history, racing version was really beautiful! Here are some pics.

Cheers

Great and beautifull cars.
The true Gran Turismo Allegerita's.

Were very succesfull at the racetracks.

But restoring the 105-series every 5 years because the rust more than the other models?
I think you're confused with the Sud from the 70's/80's, those cars were notorious for rust.

Helo Revo,

Sorry for not responding earlier. Here are some of the pics. I bought already restored car, so I am just putting GTA parts on it, therefore there are no project car pics.

At the moment I just finalized rear end and wheels. In 3 weeks time the whole front end will be changed (gta mesh grill set with centre heart) and doors as well (gta push buttons). Then in phase 2 the interior will be changed and at some stage (when more money wil be available) the original twin spark 1600 engine has tp come inside!!!

Currently there is 1750 engine inside, with sporting cumshafts. It has around 120 HP. Great sound, lot of power, however, not the greatest acceleration.

Which Alfa do you have?

Cheers

Hey, what a brilliant looking piece of machinery. :D
Good luck on your project. Great to have fellow Alfista over here. :)
Now, care to tell us your whereabouts. Judging from the pictures might be Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria or thereabout?

Well, live and learn every day. I've never noticed that GTA had push buttons.:o

Which Alfa do you have?
Sadly I am just another wannabe using Alfa logo here in forum and public transport in real life. Actually I've been looking for nice second hand Alfa for about six months, not very actively though. Have been super busy at work. Cheers. :)

Your pictures showed some pretty steep mountains ---> Alpines was my instant thought.

Which Alfa would you like to buy?
I'd like to own some late model 155 or 164 (really classics already IMO :)) for every day use. These two are really rare over here, so maybe I'll just settle for 156 which in turn is quite common hereabout.Cheers.

Without a doubt these are very cool looking cars. But beautiful? I dont think so. Beautiful is curves and lines and such. But thats just my opinion. Very nice car you have and I hope you have many happy years and miles with it.

You know very little. The only Alfa Romeos that had an exceptional rust problem were the Alfetta model line due to Alfa Romeo using recycled steel of a poor quality. Otherwise These Alfa Romeos were not prone to rust anymore than any other car.

[QUOTE=night rider]You know very little.

From my understanding of all Alfa Bertone books ever published in english they are very prone to rust. I currently own 3 bodyshells and every Alfa Bertone member that I know fights the same problem.

I do not know if you own the car and where are you from, but maybe they do not rust in California or southern Italy, but they definitely do in parts of the world where it rains a lot.

Nice to have expert like you in the forum :) Maybe you can consult us on various issues!

im not going all the way with this replica, the body is a gt junior, although aluminium or fiberglass door skins / bonnet / boot may come later on, i currently have a four plug engine from my old spider 2000 veloce, but intend to add an alfa 75 twin spark engine when the budget allows! check out www.alfaholics.co.uk (our cars section) to see a similar project, and finally AR501 is rosso alfa (alfa red) the correct red for GTA's, dont have any new shots at the moment but its due back from paint soon so will add some then!

Hello to all,
I'm glad to have found this forum as I am a big fan of Alfas (Giulia Sprint GTA's).
What beautiful Giulias! Not being fortunate enough to actually own one, I'm reduced to scale modelling. BTW, would any of you folks happen to know where I can find some drawings and photos of the Giulia Sprint GTA's engine parts, interior and trunk? I would normally post such a question on a modelling forum, but I've had not luck thus far. One of my many current projects is a 1/10th scale Alfa Giulia Sprint GTA using a Tamiya bodyshell and heavily modified Tamiya wheels and scratchbuilding everything else. I've built a semi-accurate replica before as a fully functional R/C model and I would like to now build a static "museum quality" model. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. My apologies if I had high-jacked the thread. Thanks.

Hello, i'm new here i just started off building a 1300 Gta junior replica.
I'm going to finish it in white with the green striping.
For the gta-push button dooropeners i was wandering if someone has a closeup foto of the exact position in the door and the way it is atached to the doorlock.
I will post a picture soon.

Prices are outrageous and most of the cars smell bad...
How is it possible to have Maxi Turbo with only 280bhp? And that 6R4... I saw it being driven, and that engine sounds more like a Range Rover standard engine. It's slow too.
Then there's the Turbo 2 at.....32.000€!!!! Maybe it's not much because a Beetle costs the same...

Hi and welcome to UCP. Nice to see that you own the modern #33. Just what did you do with the rear wheel arches?

When the car was set up for the Trans Am series in 1970-1972, they were added. Most GTA's that were raced here in Trans Am had these wheel arches added. I got used to them and it's part of the car's history. Here is a bit more about the car:

The car is an ex-Autodelta Alfa Romeo GTA, manufactured on July 11, 1965 and sold to Alfa Romeo London, G.B. on July 22, 1965. It was originally owned by an Alfa dealership and had various drivers including Jochen Rindt. The car raced in England for a couple years with 10 races documented: 8 firsts, 1 second, 1 DNF. Then it came to the US in the late 1960's and was raced five times in SCCA B Sedan: 4 wins and 1 third. In 1970 it was prepared for the SCCA Trans Am series. The car was primarily a back up car and actually raced in the 1971 Laguna Seca race.

henk4
01-27-2006, 03:00 PM
Excellent, well, race cars always develop over time so nothing to be worried about. Are you still racing it and if so at what occasions? Was the 1600 cc also replaced by a 2 litre then?

italcarguy
01-27-2006, 03:07 PM
The car is currently raced with Alfa club as well as vintage races all over the west coast of the United States. I hope to race it in the Monterey Historic's this August.

I still have the original motor. It is now fitted with it's Trans Am 1750 block and a GTA cyl. head. I have the original aluminum air box as well, it's not on the car right now because I like the sound from the velocity stacks.

Of course! :D:D:D

In fact no. I've always been a lover of the truly great cars. And since kid, I've always had friends that own the very same cars I dream with. Instead of being jealous, I tend to enjoy others achievements and hapiness. I like to see someone buy the car that I can't buy. It makes me see the picture of my dreams from some other person eyes. ;)

I hope this fair-play will be rewarded someday. So far, it hasn't been much...:)
