my dad said he would consider getting a 250 GTO replica in near future if he found a very high quality kit and a 2.5L V-12!!!! i need to know of an engine builder and or crat V-12's this small, and high quality kits

it would obviously be better to get the real thing, but $10,000,000 is just a little much

this is for him

notice how he said he would "consider." that doesn't mean you should go around looking for engines already

If he wanted an authentic replica, I would advise him to go with a 3.0 liter V12, because that's what the 250 GTO has.

It's a confusing naming scheme. Approx. (250cc per cylinder) * (12 cylinders) = Approx. 3000cc = 3.0 litres. As you may have guessed, the 250 is from the number of CCs per cylinder.

That would be pretty brutal if he paid someone to build a 2.5 Litre V12, and then he found this out :)

Just get a V12 out of an old Jag XJS. Cheap as anything and it sounds decent. You ain't gonna find a 3.0l V12 very easily.

:Exige:
02-14-2005, 07:25 PM
You can get a fully working XJS for under £1000. Buy one of them then sell what you dont need on Ebay :)

And by contrast, 250 GTO V12s are known for their reliability and for 300,000km+ daily driver lifespans. ;)

Where would you go about getting a "crate" V12, that is if you didnt pull one out of an old junked Ferrari or Jag. How much would one cost? If a top of the line crate V8 can run up to like $10,000-15,000 (Correct me if I am wrong there) then what would a V12 run you?

my porsche i thought you were from "good ol', get-ere-don" texas?!?! lol
Just get a GM/Mopar/Ford Racing/Edelbrock V8, they'll all push out way more hp than the old ferrari engine anyway! (and 7000ccs :p)

The reason a lot of old Jags are still running is because their engines have been replaced with V8s. Finding a 3l V12 will be very difficult, unless you a) contact Ferrari, or b) have it specially created. You could actually shove some other thing under the bonnet to have it running until such a time that you find an engine.

There are many recreations on the basis of 250GT/E chassis for instance by Favre, you might be able to get one below 500000 US$, if such price is not a problem. You will drive a Ferrari, but with the wrong body, and the chassis will also not have all the tweaks you would like. A decent non-racing 250 engine will still give you about 240 BHP.

Porsche .. have you ever heard a 250 GTO? Wait until Goodwood so you can record the sound of it and match it up to all the engines (had to put a Goodwood reference in here :) )
