Also note, it cannot be considered a super car as well.

For instance, a WRX is an everyday car, but also is considered a supercar, so therefore is not eligible.

Mine is the Lincoln Continental. It drives like a dream, is gorgeous inside and is like sitting on a very elegant, yet very comfortable couch.

The WRX is NOT considered a supercar. It can be modified into an awesome machine.

Everyday car? I can name 10,000,000 everyday cars!!@#$!@

How the hell is a WRX a supercar? It costs AUS$50,000. Id have to say the Mazda 6 or a new 5 series would have to be my favourite EVERYDAY car.

Both of you and the rest of you, I meant like it cna;t even be considered a supercar, and SC considers the WRX as a supercar, so we will as well and use that as our basis.

I meant like really everyday cars that you wouldn't see in say Gran Turismo.

I meant like really everyday cars that you wouldn't see in say Gran Turismo. SC considers the Alfa Romeo GTV and the SLK230s to be a supercars. Actually, scratch my previous choice, my favourite everyday car is a Monaro CV8. CV6s are very rare as only pansies buy them; 95% of Monaro sales have been CV8s.

A Golf V6 4Motion is a mighty good car. German build quality, compact size, very good road manners and a 204 bhp engine... The R32 doesn't sound bad either.

When price is an issue, a new Toyota Corolla ('cause I just got one) :)

If price is no issue, than there are too many choices to consider. WRX, Audi A4 or A6, Toyota Celica GT-S or the new '04 Solara, a new Golf VR6 or Jetta, 350Z Coupe or Roadster :), SVT Focus, not too mention Bemmer, Benz, Lexus, etc. etc.

By the way, to the guy who asked for cars NOT in Gran Turismo, not possible if you're looking for good cars. GT2 even had minivans for heavens sake!

I see many WRXs in Hong Kong every day, does that make it an every day car?

To answer your question, its really hard to decide. I'll take a Peugeot 406 coupe for looks, or maybe Inifiniti G35 coupe. For more capacity I'd take the Toyota Mark II or the Nissan Gloria or M45 as its called in the US. Actually, maybe a Toyota Will VS just for shock value :p

See, when you get into everyday drivers, most of us would love to have a semo supercar that we could drive alot but for those of us without the cash, the 1994 Ranger fills the bill nicely.

the definition of a super car is any production car that can accelerate from a certain speed eg 40mph to say 120mph under a certain amount of time.
Im not sure about the exact time but i remeber reading about a subaru whch could do it making it a super car.

My pick would be the Holden VY SS.
They are good value and a lot of fun. I would probably go for a Monaro CV8 if they werent so much to insure. You also tend to get carjacked in them. I know a lady who had hers taken from her as she was leaving work. "give me the keys or I'll kill you." I think was the term they used. I just had two wheels stolen from my SV8 on my front lawn while we were asleep in the front room. They are very clever. If only they used their cleverness for good instead of evil!

Whos definition? This point is being debated in another thread. The Subaru, despite its adulation in some circles, could not really be described as a supercar. It may match certain areas of some supercars performance but that just makes it a great value sports car. One of the magazines here in Australia has a term for it. Bang for your buck.

I don't think its the fact that it is a performance car that rules it out as an "everyday" car, I think its price alone limits its appeal. I think an everyday car would be a car thats affordable to most people IE: under $50,000 . :)

Japanese cars suck unless there really modified. A for Japanese trucks i wont even go there. You could never do work in a European SUV because they dont have leaf spring suspension which is much better for pulling stuff or hauling something. Independant suspension is only good for haveing a smooth ride on the road which those euro cans are only good for.

what are you anti-american or something?
Why must it come to this?

I would never buy a foreign truck or SUV.
Australia has arguably some of the most toughest conditions in the world where 4x4s operate. The Landcruisers claim to fame is that it was used extensivel for transport on the Snowy Mountians Hydro Electric Scheme between 1949 and 1974. Further to that Toyoata, Nissan and Landrovers are almost all you will see in the Australian outback. In fact a Hummer or any US style SUV would be regarded as a visitor. Thats not to say that all of them are crap, but they are obviously not highly regarded.
Although not faithfully representative of the standard versions, you will note the conspicuous lack of any US type 4x4s in the winners listings of races like the Paris Dakar.
Therefore I can only conclude that your blanket dismissal of "foriegn" (although I beleive for some time Jeep were building Grand Cherokees in Austria) SUVs is that you have never used one or perhaps your preference is dictated by less objective criteria.

Theres simply no comparison and the Hummer H1 would own Rangerover no problem.
In which respect?

The Rangerover is no better than a Ford Explorer but cost 3 times as much.
The Ford Explorer is the but of many a joke in Australia. In fact it is known as the Ford Exploder. A memebr of our fishing club once bought his brand new one along on a trip and watched in horror as the electrical system caught fire.
Here are some interesting anecdotes from your own country.
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/ford_explorer_misc.html
Basically the complaints regard weak auto transmissions, poor seating room in rear seats, leaf spring rear in earlier models and poor handling (which Ford blamed Firestone for).
The Range Rover has long been regarded as a highly capable on and off road 4x4.
Perhaps your requirements for a SUV are not dependant on off road ability.

Firstly you can have coil sprung live axles as well a independant suspension. The military version of your Hummer and H1 has 4 wheel independant suspension and has a higher towing capacity than the live axle H2 and H3.
Leaf springs are not the ultimate panacea for towing. In fact standard leaf springs are universally upgraded on 4x4s by people who want serious towing either with aftermarket kits or airbags. I would pit my after market coil springs (80 series Landcruiser) against a sloppy Explorers rear leafs any day. They are progresive which means they are realtively light when the vehicle is lightly laden and then stiffen up when loaded. The advantage that coils have over leafs springs is that they avail greater suspension travel which is important off road.
In the end the type of suspension used is not of as greater importance as the quality and design of it.
