Dodge Unleashes the Fastest and Most Powerful Production Pickup Ever, the 150 MPH Viper-Powered 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10

Auburn Hills, Nov 19, 2003

The most powerful and fastest production pickup ever, the new 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 packs a big Viper punch with a class-demolishing 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque.

Dodge’s Latest Weapon in the War Against Complacency –Loaded With Five Hundred Viper Bullets

There are no doubts, no second guesses and no recounts needed, the ultimate performance pickup is here; and it’s a Dodge.

The most powerful and fastest production pickup ever, the new 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 packs a big Viper punch with a class-demolishing 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque. Topping 150 mph in maximum speed and reaching 60 mph in just over five seconds, Dodge has recalibrated expectations for truck performance.

“With the Ram SRT-10, the PVO team set out to create the fastest, most powerful production pickup ever – the ultimate Dodge Ram,” said Wolfgang Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group. “The goal at PVO is to out muscle everything in our class through superior engineering and by drawing on our engineers’ vast motorsports experience. That is why this truck can accelerate like a dragster, yet it is not a coarse hot rod.”

“The Ram SRT-10 represents a cohesive design that blends brute power with the engineering refinement usually reserved for the world’s best sports cars,” Bernhard added. “This is not a bolt-on kit for a Ram. PVO has created a new vehicle that blends a race-inspired interior, functional aerodynamics for high speed driving and a modified suspension to maximize handling without sacrificing ride. The Ram SRT-10 has been refined and perfected into a sports truck that is luxurious, fast and represents the ultimate in its class. No one has ever experienced anything like the Ram SRT-10.”

Bigger is Better

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 delivers big numbers at every turn. With 500 horsepower, 525 lb.-ft. of torque, 505 cubic inches and a 505 watt ear-melting sound system, Dodge dominates in every category. The 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the new performance truck icon.

“Once the idea of putting the 500 horsepower Viper-10 into the Ram was presented, we knew we had to make this truck,” said Dan Knott, Director, Performance Vehicle Operations. “We felt we had an obligation to build this truck, to build something truly great. We knew that no other manufacturer could make this happen, only Dodge and PVO.”

“But we didn’t just make a boy racer truck with lots of horsepower,” Knott added. “We sweat the details – tuned the suspension, re-designed the interior for performance driving, re-worked the aerodynamics and created a new truck, one that delivers a life-altering driving experience. We made this a PVO vehicle with one intention – to be the fastest production pickup ever. It must be driven to be believed.”

The Ram SRT-10’s mayhem-making ability is delivered courtesy of the highest displacement engine in a factory pickup truck – the same 8.3-liter aluminum V-10 that powers America’s ultimate sports car, the 2003 Dodge Viper. The V-10’s horsepower rating easily surpasses all other pickups – not to mention virtually every production sports car in the world.

“This truck has a soul and that soul is the Viper V-10,” said Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing. “This is the Viper of trucks, a unique, low-volume, over-the-top collectible that remakes the entire segment. In the performance truck segment, the Ram SRT-10 simply owns the road, and once again proves that the Dodge DNA runs true and deep.”

“There is no replacement for displacement,” added Bernhard. “The Dodge Ram SRT-10 delivers its astounding performance in a way that only Viper owners will recognize, with an endless rush of torque.”

Dodge Ram SRT-10 Grabs Guinness World Record

Viper-powered Ram SRT-10 "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck"

NASCAR's Brendan Gaughan Fastest Man In A Production Dodge Ram
Chelsea, Mich., Feb 02, 2004 - The Dodge Ram SRT-10 unleashed its Viper power today, taking its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck."

Only recently off the Saltillo, Mexico, assembly line and not modified in any way for additional power or enhanced aerodynamics, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 posted a two-lap, both-directions average speed of 154.587 mph over a "flying kilometer" on the 4.71-mile oval at the DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds here in Chelsea. The record run by the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was certified by Guinness World Records and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). The previous record was 147.54 mph, set last July by the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning, before the Dodge Ram SRT-10 went into production.

"When we set out to develop the Dodge Ram SRT-10, our mission was to create the ultimate performance truck," said Dan Knott, Director, Street and Racing Technology. "With 500 horsepower, sports car-like handling, world-class braking and race-inspired design appointments, we know we reached our goal. Setting the Guinness record today simply confirms that, and solidifies the Ram SRT-10 as the ultimate -- and fastest -- performance pickup."

According to Guinness World Records rules, the record speed had to be the average of two one-kilometer runs in opposite directions along the same track, made within an hour of one another. The timing equipment had to be certified as accurate to within 1/1000th of a second, and supplied and operated by a qualified third party. The speed of each run was timed by means of sensors at the start and finish of the measured kilometer, thus giving an average speed over the full distance.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the third Dodge vehicle branded with the Street and Racing Technology label, following the Dodge Viper SRT-10 -- the ultimate American sports car -- and the award-winning 230 horsepower Dodge SRT-4, that has taken the sport compact "tuner" crowd by storm.

Behind the wheel of the Ram SRT-10 in the record-setting run was Brendan Gaughan, a six-time winner in a Dodge Ram in the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS). Gaughan makes his NASCAR Nextel Cup debut later this month at the Daytona 500 in the No. 77 Kodak Dodge.

"I've certainly driven some fast trucks," Gaughan said, "but I've certainly never experienced anything like setting a Guinness world record. I've known for a long time that the Dodge Ram is the ultimate truck for the race track, and this certainly proves the Ram SRT-10 is the ultimate performance truck for the street."

Hein Le Roux, research team member at Guinness World Records traveled from the company's London headquarters to monitor the record run.

"I'm pleased to be here in Chelsea for this record-breaking attempt," Le Roux said. "Guinness World Records is the ultimate compilation of superlatives, and I am proud to officially recognize that Dodge has set a new Guinness World Record."

Le Roux said watching the record-setting speed run was a great way to begin the new year, in which Guinness World Records celebrates 50 years of world records.

"People aren't too surprised when they hear about expensive super cars or race cars setting speed records," he added. "But few people expect a standard production pickup truck, which they can drive straight off the dealer lot, to be capable of this sort of speed. That's what makes this such a great Guinness World Record."

With a Guinness World Record now under its belt, the stock Dodge Ram SRT-10 now heads to Florida, where it will pace the field at the Feb. 13 Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NCTS race at Daytona International Speedway.

Like a Viper with a Pickup Bed

Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 01, 2004

LIKE A VIPER WITH A PICKUP BED

First things first: An unmodified 500-horsepower, Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records on Feb. 2, 2004 as the world’s fastest production pickup truck, with a measured top speed of 154.587 mph (248.783 kph) sustained over a flying kilometer. Not only is it fast, the Ram SRT-10 is also quick, with 0-60 mph times in the low five-second range.

And for 2005, following up on the success of the original Ram SRT-10 pickup introduced last year, Dodge introduces the Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab™—for the truck enthusiast who wants Viper performance in a pickup truck, along with room for the family and serious
towing capacity.

"We knew when we came out with the Dodge Ram SRT-10 that there would be a lot of customers who would want trailer towing capability,” said Dan Knott, Director—Street and Racing Technology, DaimlerChrysler Corp. “There’s also a major push in the truck market for two rows of seating. So, the question was, ‘Can we create a more usable truck for the person who wants to haul more stuff, but is not willing to give up performance?’ Our answer was a truck that is just as bad and bold in terms of performance, but a little more user-friendly in terms of hauling.

“You’ve still got the SRT credibility,” Knott said, “but you don’t have to shift all the time, and you can haul your Viper to the racetrack.”

Enthusiasts now have two choices of the boldest, most outrageous pickups ever sold. After all, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab have what no other pickups can match: an 8.3-liter (505 cu. in.) Viper V-10 engine making 500 horsepower (372 kW) and 525 lb.-ft. (712 N•m) of torque. And 90 percent of that power comes on between 1,500 and 5,600 rpm—the range in which drivers spend most of their time in normal operation.

DODGE RAM SRT-10 QUAD CAB™—PERFORMANCE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

In the grand tradition of SRT offering more performance, more outrageousness and more pure functionality across a growing vehicle lineup, 2005 marks the debut
of the newest Dodge Ram SRT-10, the Quad Cab. It offers the ultimate performance for the family-oriented truck enthusiast who desires more interior space and more utility.

Beginning with a Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab as a starting point, SRT engineers worked their magic with the kind of goodies that have enthralled Ram SRT-10 owners: Viper V-10 engine, performance suspension, awesome brakes, race-inspired interior and bold styling.

And, it offers an automatic transmission—a super-duty four-speed specially tweaked to provide optimum performance with the capability of towing 7,500 pounds. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab has several other unique features supporting its towing capability, including a special transmission cooler, heavy-duty torque converter, special front and rear strut and spring assemblies and all-season tires.

DODGE RAM SRT-10—LIKE A VIPER WITH A PICKUP BED

Of course, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 is still the logical choice for the performance truck enthusiast who would rather see a clutch pedal than two extra doors in the boldest, baddest pickup on the planet.

The Ram SRT-10 puts its V-10 to work through a T-56 six-speed manual transmission fitted with a Hurst shifter. For 2005, a new drivetrain enhancement has been added to further help get that power to the road: The Ram SRT-10 now has a new 4.56 axle ratio to improve launch feel and low-end acceleration.

A BALANCED APPROACH TO PERFORMANCE

SRT engineers recognize that although many performance-truck enthusiasts have a short wish list (power, power and more power), it takes more than that to create a truly complete performance package.

So, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab were engineered from the frame up. That frame is fully hydroformed for strength and rigidity, and fitted with fully tuned front and rear strut assemblies. Up front, modified steering and independent front suspension carry the load, while in the rear, axle snubbers, performance-tuned springs, Bilstein monotube shock absorbers and a rear sway bar on the standard cab keep things firmly planted on the ground and smooth through the corners.

Both the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab ride on 22-inch Viper-style custom wheels. Ram SRT-10 regular cab models are shod with 305/40 R22 Pirelli Scorpion tires, while Quad Cab models are equipped with Pirelli Scorpion all-season tires.

Stopping fast is just as important as going fast, so SRT engineers developed a special braking system for the Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab that utlilize heavy-duty Dodge Ram components and unique four-pot opposed-piston calipers that are new for 2005. A three-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) actuates new custom red brake calipers up front that grip 15-inch rotors, and in the rear, modified heavy-duty red calipers grip 14-inch rotors. Additionally, front brakes are cooled with air ducted from the front fascia to reduce heat build-up.

LOOKS THAT SAY ‘PERFORMANCE’

Of course, every SRT vehicle’s form follows function—and the Ram SRT-10 is no exception.

The muscular shape of the Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab were developed with the help of wind-tunnel testing and displays cues reminiscent of Dodge’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck series entries: deep front fascia equipped with a wind splitter, signature cross hair grille and sculpted sides. There’s also a unique hood with fully functional air intake that provides additional engine bay cooling. Details befitting the Ram SRT-10’s outrageous attitude include “Viper Powered” badges on the hood sides and a specially designed rear fascia with cutout for the massive dual exhaust tips.

New for 2005 on the styling side of the Ram SRT-10 Regular Cab is an optional body-color aluminum tonneau cover over the pickup bed, outfitted with a unique spoiler for aerodynamic efficiency. (The tonneau cover is standard on SRT-10 Quad Cab.) Special gas struts help in raising and lowering the tonneau cover for easy access to the pickup bed. An optional Protective Pickup Box Tray is also available with the tonneau cover on both the SRT-10 Regular and Quad Cab. Body color choices for both the Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab for 2005 include black, red and silver.

The interior for the Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab is a blend of comfort and performance-bred utility, starting with the Viper-like red starter button on the instrument panel, and following through with race-inspired heavily bolstered seats with suede inserts that grip the occupants. Other interior touches include a leather-wrapped carbon fiber-patterned steering wheel, and brushed metal accents on the instrument panel and door trim panels.

A pair of communication options are also available for 2005 on the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab:

One is the UConnect™ hands-free communications system with Bluetooth™ technology. The system recognizes up to seven different Bluetooth-equipped cellular phones and responds to voice commands, utilizing a microphone in the rear-view mirror and the stereo system’s speakers for hands-free conversations.
Another option is the REC Navigation Radio, a DVD-based system that uses voice commands to guide the user through the drive route, mile by mile, turn by turn, until the destination is reached. An eight-way joystick allows the user to scroll through navigation menus, displayed on a 5.8-inch color display on the dashboard.
The Dodge Ram SRT-10 and Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab are built at DaimlerChrysler’s Saltillo, Mexico, Assembly Plant. The 8.3-liter V-10 engine is built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Mich.

2004 MODEL YEAR
Available in late 2003, the new Dodge Ram SRT-10 set an unprecedented standard as the ultimate in performance for sport trucks with its 500-hp and 525 lb.-ft. torque Viper-powered V-10 engine capable of more than 150 mph or 0-60 mph in a little over 5 seconds.

MARKET POSITION

With its Viper V-10 power, bold, outrageous styling and unmatched performance, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab serve as “halo” trucks for the Dodge truck lineup, and help carve out a unique niche for the Ram in the light-duty segment that is becoming increasingly crowded. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the ultimate performance pickup.

MARKET ADVANTAGES

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab are part of a growing lineup of Street and Racing Technology (SRT) vehicles developed under a simple credo: “Race inspired, street legal.”
The Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab offer an unbeatable combination of class-leading Ram attributes, coupled with an 8.3-liter (505 cu. in.) Viper V-10 engine making 500 horsepower (372 kW) and 525 lb.-ft. (712 N•m) of torque, turning a six-speed manual transmission fitted with a Hurst shifter.
From their specially designed running gear,
suspension and brakes to its brutally muscular looks, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and SRT-10 Quad Cab were created for customers who appreciate power and performance as well as an affinity for trucks.
Designed to be the boldest, baddest, fastest pickup truck ever, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 holds the Guinness Book of World Records title as “the world’s fastest production pickup truck” with a measured speed of 154.587 mph over a flying kilometer. It is also capable of 0-60 mph times in the low five-second range.
The Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab offers the ultimate in performance, coupled with extraordinary convenience and utility—Viper-inspired, but with the ability to “stow and tow.”

That two door looks quite a bit tougher than the four.

You would think that on a circa $50K USD vehicle Dodge would get some body coloured door handles! Those generic dark grey ones look awful.

Also that interior, for a $50K USD car, is terrible! The radio is the same one you get in bottom of the line Chryslers. How about some exclusivity for such a unique car. I understand that people don't buy this rig because it's a luxury vehicle but come on this is pretty brutal.

I heard Ford are bringing out a new supertruck (the SVT Tsunami- it's a concept, and here... http://www.gearfx.com/temp/detnews/B01-126029.htm), which is meant to be faster.

There'll always be a special place in my heart for this one though...

It may turn out to be faster but it will never takes the Dodges looks. The grille on the dodge looks great and side body styling but in the rear the spoiler looks really dumb. It probably doesn't help the truck at all. come on dodge take the stupid spoiler off it's useless.......

According to http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/VehicleCompare.jsp?vehicle=RAM_SRT_10&pid=u&adid=u&rid=u, the standard cab isn't rated for towing. The Quad-cab is rated at 7500. I wonder what the difference is.

Edit: The 4 door has a 4speed auto as standard equipment. I don't think the Viper's 6 speed is meant to take that much stress.

indeed... I didn't even notice that the regular cab isn't rated for towing... odd. I think you're right though, the reg. cab appears to only be available with the 6MT and the quad cab appears to only be available with the 4AT - that must be the difference...

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I couldn´t find anywhere Hi-res pics of the relaunched (faceliftet) version from 2006-2008 on this forum. Besides a few cosmetic changes at the exterior (headlights are now more efficient) it features a renewed dashboard and an oiltemp gauge in the a-pillar. It´s only the Quadcab with automatic transmission (coded HR) So here they are :)

I found two more with the truck in motion. Is anyone interested?
