I saw everyone was getting new cars so I thought I would let you know what I am getting. I am getting a new MY05 Subaru WRX, manual, aqua blue no other options. I also saw the standard test for proving a car so when I get it I will endeavour to complete it.

Being 22, insurance is going to be pretty hard to come by because it's a WRX. Anyway, sounds like fun, congratulations mate! Good to have another Melbournian on the board too!

Was there anything in particular that stood out for you wanting the WRX? Standard form theyre a pretty good car, most people who've driven them reckon they stick to the road like shit to a shovel

What about the new liberty thats a fine looking set of wheels there.

I don't wan't to sound rude but i think the liberty GT shits on the WRX now a days, It's got the look rex had.
I guess it's more expensive but it's worth it:)

The Liberty does look smoother, but its heavier than the WRX and styling's subjective anyway

They have lost there way with the wrx over the years.
My sister will give up her VL calais only for 2 cars... A VS Commodore SS. And 98 WRX.

Well lucky for me the car is actually going to be a company car. That means $0 excess and anyone is insured to drive it. It also means I get the car tax free, pay for fuel and services tax free and then own the cra after 3 years. it is such a good deal.

What made me choose the WRX? Well I have always liked Holdens, I even worked in their engineering department for a year as a student, but they really are to expensive and for a "sports" car they don't really impress me. But I do love RWD. I looked at the WRX because of the chasis and also because of the fact that the car is so nimble. You can throw them into things that larger RWD cars will have problems with.

What company do you work for? i doubt theyll "give" you a car after just 3 years.

mmm_aapls
03-21-2005, 04:19 PM
I would rather not say what company I work for but i am getting the car on Novated lease. That means we make a salary sacrifice with pre tax dollars towards the car. Then after 3 years, I own it, but until then it is essentially a business car.

i know the lease system, i was going to lease an XR6T. I was going to go through Leaseplan.

clutch-monkey

noooooo don't lease

mmm_aapls
03-21-2005, 08:05 PM
Why not? The pros far out weight the cons. Especially in this case.

Blue Supra
03-21-2005, 08:33 PM
depends how much you make, im assuming youre in the higher tax bracket? being taxed over 30c to the dollar? that makes it worthwhile. if youre in the lower echelons then it works out more expensive.

mmm_aapls
03-21-2005, 08:58 PM
Yeah thats right. Plus now you have an option of FBTor employee contribution. Because lease brings your tax bracket down, you obviously get paid less super. So if you choose to make a small contribution to your super (which the goverment matches dollar for dollar up to $500), you don't need to worry about FBT. Then on top of that you pay for fuel and services with tax free dollars, it does turn out cheaper. Much cheaper.

Blue Supra
03-21-2005, 08:59 PM
plus if you make those voluntary super contributions then youre goin to be sweet when you retire too:)

mmm_aapls
03-21-2005, 09:07 PM
yeah. I am only 22 though, retirement is a long long way away (unless I get really rich)!

fpv_gtho
03-21-2005, 10:36 PM
if you get in now though at 22, at least you'll have some security when you retire though :p

My dad's car is leased through his company, his company pays for the lease, fuel, service and after 4 years it's his, he just has to pay the residual like in a normal lease

fpv_gtho
03-22-2005, 02:01 AM

2ndclasscitizen
03-22-2005, 02:11 AM
yeah his company changed the way they do company cars, it used to be it was owned by the company and you got up to a certain model level, now its up to a certain value, so when dad got his he got a runout VY2 with V8 and leather for $50k

hopefully the residual will be cheap enough for me to afford :D

VY2 what?

in 4 years if you have arounf 25 - 30k you could buy one outright. i dont know what the residual would be though.

4 years though they'd basically be cheaper to buy straight off the used market, the benefit here is you know who was the previous owner and what theyve done :p

fpv_gtho
03-22-2005, 11:07 PM
under $30K for XR6's isnt too much of a surprise, the NA's sell new for $38K afterall and the BA's have i think 75-80% of their value after 1 year, XR6's tend to hold about 60% over 3 years, although the BA will probably drop a bit cause theyre no longer a rarity

yeah but this is my dad, he doesn't want it to sound like that. my dad's boss on the other hand, has been through THREE exhuasts on his R8 cause they've all been to loud and now his got one that combined with the chip and intake gives him 360kw

Not sure oif UK spec is the same ....
"The Nissan 200SX S13 was fitted with the CA18DET engine in the UK. The body is better known as the RS13 or 180SX internationally. The Nissan Silvia S13 K's is mechanically identical.

The engine is an 1809cc unit with twin overhead belt-driven camshafts (DOHC) and 16 valves. The turbocharger is a Garrett T25 configured to provide 10PSI of boost.

The CA18DET engine produces approximately 170BHP and 228NM in stock form. The vehicle weighs about 1100Kg including a driver and can accelerate from 0-60MPH in 6.7 seconds. Top speed is over 140MPH. Despite this, 29.1MPG is possible.
"
PS: Be careful on trackdays and not end up like this guy :) (earlier version 200)

Wouldnt be surprised if S15's were a touch heavier, i think they were about 1400kg for the top of the line Spec-R or whatever Nissan called them, but at least theres 2 figures now to work between
