View Full Version : muster the funds

ok so my dad gave me permission to get an E39 M5 if i could "muster the funds" and an E46 M3 if i could prove i am responsible and could also "muster the funds"

he will give me $10,000, hence that is why i have 12k saved up

so, i normally wouldnt ask other people how to make money, but i have limited employment oppertunities, since i am underaged i cannot be on a payroll

i have 2 years to earn $10,000, to make my grand total, 22k, whicha 2001 m3 with slightly high mileage should be well within my reach

that is $5,000 per year, $417 a month $105 a week, if i mow the yard everyweek, that is $20, plus washing both cars, $30, $50 a week, i could probably do manual labor for my dad's company at $8 an hour, which would need 7 hours per weekend, which is probably attainable, and my mom might let me database things for hrd compnauy at $10 per hour, so a few hours of that

but in the summer i can work for my dad and my dfirends dad every day so i will raise my income in the summer

but my question is this, is there anything a person of my age can do right now to earn more money than i am currently making

they can be long term things, though i need the money in 2 years flat, or one time things

please any ideas you have, i am in desperate need

where in TX do you live? six flags offers part time jobs for 7 and up an hour:P, so does hurricane harbor, they hire 15-16 and up. some o'reilly auto parts stores may accept you if you are 17 yrs old, even some dealers(have a couple of friends that worked at a toyota dealer when they were 17), if you are younger than 15, then mowing the lawns is the way(i guess), many stores like kroger's and albertsons are hiring high schoolers, they pay $5.50 or so an hour though.

(i myself am looking for a job, am 17 and gonna try @ toyota dealer where me brother works)

How wonderful.

I say you throw rocks at people, $5 a rock.

Seriously though, I just ask neigbor's if they need just about anything done: whether it's mowing the lawn, or moving some furniture, or whatever. Obviously only if you do not have anything better to do, but if you want some money, and don't have anything to do for money, just go around your neighborhood and ask around. If their grass looks long, offer to cut it. If it looks like they are moving a bunch of furniture or painting something, offer a hand to help. Easy, effective. Plus, neighbor's tend to pay more then your parents :D

I know that at your age is hard, they even put limitations on 14-15 year olders.

Once you turn 16 or so get a relatively decent job to make 600-800 a month and be able to buy whatever the heck you want. Ask your dad to get a loan and buy you the car you whish and pay him every month the payments + interest (I'm saying this cause there's no way in hell you can get a loan at that age)

That's what I suggest since you have those big plans, but IMO You should start with a cheap car. I'm pretty glad I started out with a Civic, I learned how to drive, be cautios, etc with it and never afraid of f*cking the car up... Trust me, as much as you feel confident regarding driving skills and car treatment at age 16... you aren't.

Just my .02 Choose wisely.

I was working at Subway when i was 14. It's just a matter of proving to them that your mature enough to work for them.

But if you've got 10 Grand, i do suggest hiring a stock broker (I'm sure you know one) and just playing the Stock market game; you never know what might happen.

I say we all contribute to a UCP account and buy a bunch of tickets, if we win we split the money among those who contributed, if we lose... We are screwed.

And no, Wouter won't be in charge of that account, I don't trust the Dutch.

US lotteries are huge in comparison to the ones here.

$400,000,000 versus our highest jackpot, $30,000,000

And thats $30Mil Australian, so like $24,000,000 US.

that 260 million is cheese, its most likely the NY state powerball

combine all the prizes in the country, it would be in the trillions

A 260 million dollars prize sounds good enough for lottery, you can't expect much when people that are underage aren't allowed to purchase tickets. There would be prize money with 10 digits if the underages could buy tickets.

IBrake4Rainbows

Try a Repo Auction or something similar.

All they want to do is cover the debt; although be careful; someone previous might have owned the car and they might have been a criminal that gets shot at; or shot in their car.

Still, if you can find a good one, it's worth a shot.

Insurance on a Performance car is going to be terrible for a young'un like yourself.

ok any new ideas anyone?

i figure for a 1995 993 (kbb value with 75,000M at $22,000) or an M3 around $30K id go for the 993, for some reason im back on the 993, probably because i realised buying my dads old 911 would be maintenance hell

so i haave $13,000 i need 10k in a year and a half, thats about $6k a year, i think i might be able to do it, i can get a job in 6 months and i have a garanteed kitchen job with a steak house, so i think i might be able to, but i would then only have enough for the car, i need insurance money, any ideas for extra income?

younger then me and a more valuable/faster car then mine...

forget about full insurance. If you cover it fully you'll spend prolly more then half your budget on it M_P. :(

hmmmm. Took LOTS of self-control and on occasions where the roads were greasy I had a few "moments" :) I'd still suggest starting off in soemthign low powered is best way to build the skills that fear isnt' the main control then in later years in a faster car.
