well in another thread i posted that id post some jalopy racing pix if somebody asked for em but nobody did...but now im really bored so here they are anyways. first if you dont know what jalopy racing is its when you buy a beater car and beat the piss out of it until it breaks. to date we've jalopied a mazda 323, ford econoline van, ford f-250 diesel, chyrsler aries, 2 ford escord wagons, a ford escort hatchback, a 77 buick riviera, and a suzuki samurai. heres a couple stories behind some of the cars:

our first jalopy racer was the mazda 323. it had a 5 speed in it and it was used by my friend caseys dad to drive around their land that they own (about 55 acres). well one night caseys dad was down at the shop talking to one of our other friends dads and they were doin a little boozin. so he says to us...hey..why dont you guys go drive that car around that field! we didnt believe him but he was serious. so we said ok and headed out to the field. we were whippin J-turns and hitting the ebrake and stuff when suddenly casey has a bright idea...lets jump it! well we had a motocross track out there but we decided those jumps were way too big but casey knew of a fairly large bump going down a hill. so we searched for it until we found it. we headed towards it and launched that car prob 4 feet off the ground and about 20-30 feet out. it was hilarious and we did it probably 6 more times. then my friend brandon who was with us decided he wanted to fly over it so we hit that bump at prob a good 30 mph and got at least 5 feet of air (it was just me and him in the car cuz everybody else was too scared to go so they told us how high we got). we flew so far out i thought we were going to hit these 2 trees that werent too far from the jump but somehow we went right in between them (it was close, we got lucky). it was awesome but then i wanted to drive it and i just hit the jump real slow and the rear tire falls off! turns out that last jump we broke the rear control arm off! well that was the end of that car.

the next good one we had was caseys dads 89 (thats just a guess but it was approximatley around that year) f-250 diesel. we called that truck the dent because it was so beat up it was just one giant dent. so had a bunch of girls out at the wood and we told em we were gonna go for a drive in the woods. this truck was extended cab but it didnt have much room in the back. needless to say we had a good 10 people in there. so we're drivin around scarin the girls and stuff doin donuts and drivin fast thru the trails. so then we decided hey lets jump this heavy beast! so we did and the girls were all screaming let us out let us out! but we didnt and we hit the jump and got some pretty good air. we were all gettin hurt and stuff bangin around in the back of the truck. we didnt want to break the truck tho so we decided one more jump and we'd call it a night. my friend dave gets in and says well this is the last one lets make it good. he hit that jump faster than ive ever hit that jump before and we LAUNCHED that truck. we were in the air for what felt like 2 seconds (if anybodies ever jumped anything before 2 seconds is quite a bit of hang time especially in a heavy ass truck!) we landed hard and got banged around pretty good but we didnt care cuz we were all laughing so hard. well we drove it back to the shop and got out and we heard a trickling noise...we looked under the truck and the radiator was pouring out coolant. we thought we were screwed but luckly caseys dad never drove it again after that and we never told him we broke it. when he took it to the scrap yard the last thing he said to the guys before we left was "i dont know what you can use off that old truck...bout the only thing left on it thats good is the radiator!" we still get a chuckle out of that one to this day.

probably my favorite jalopy racer to this day was the chrysler aries or the sloppy jalopy as we called it. a friend of mine picked this car up for free and planned on racing it in the 4 cyl class at the local race track. he gutted the entire interior and everything for it but ended up never racing it so i bought it off him for 20 bucks. we painted her up pretty good, took off even more stuff to make it lighter, cut the exhaust and added a custom ram air intake. well we never really jumped this one..me and casey did a couple times when nobody was around but mainly we used it to whip donuts with and fly around the field. it was winter at the time so we would go in reverse as fast as it would go and see how many turns we could get when you cranked the wheel. i held the record at 4 spins. well one night my friend brandon and i decided it would be a good idea to go see what this bitch would do. so we took it out on a country road and got it topped out. we had her topped out at about 115 for a couple minutes. the speedo stopped at 85 but we had that needle touchin the pin that holds it at 0. we knew we were doin about 115 because we had my friend come out after we did it a second time in his avalon and clock us. he passed us slowly at about 120. keep in mind we're flyin down this dark road at night, no headligjhts, no windows, no trunk, no bumpers, no tail lights, no interior. the only thing this thing had was 2 front seats and a steering wheel. god that was stupid but it was so fun. that car FLEW with it being so light and i like to believe our custom ram air and exhaust helped a lot too. that car finally died when we were hill climbing with it. we were driving up this REALLY steep hill. in fact it was pretty much straight up and down for probably the last foot. we climbed it twice and on the third time we put a huge hole in the tranny. we pushed it back to the shop and beat the hell out of it with sled hammers and bats and stuff. well one of my friends smashed the fuel pressure regulator in and after we had beat it to a pulp he was like hey lets see if it still starts! well when he turned the key gas sprayed everywhere and it lit on fire inside the shop. we tried to push it out but there was too many cars in the way. we thought we were gonna be blown up but in the nick of time somebody grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out the fire.

then we had the 77 buick riviera. some people his parents knew gave it to him and it was his first car. he drove it for about a year before it started being unreliable. he was going to just scrap it but i bought it off him for 20 bucks. we put on some custom ram air, cut the exhaust (that old 350 sounded meaaan) and put on a huge push bar in the front. we did our usual jalopy hijinks but by this time that little bump in the field was getting old so we built a much bigger jump specifically for this car. we launched it real good a bunch of times until the gas tank fell off. then we just smashed it all up with caseys skid loader then his dad came out with his auger and augered the roof off of it.

the samurai i bought for 50 bucks off this kid i knew. we were going to use it to do some mud boggin and trail cruisin this year down at the woods but then we got word of a radio contest for a radio station called the X where you tag your car up with an X. the people with the best car got a free dinner and a limo ride to the monster truck show that was going on where they would crush your car with a monster truck. well we painted X's all over the samurai and we built and X out of wood and lit it on fire and jumped the samurai over it and sent it in. we thought for sure an X'd up samurai jumping over a flaming X would be a shoe in for winner but we lost. they did mention us on the radio tho and said we were awesome. we believe to this day that the only reason we lost is because they knew running over a samurai with a monster truck would be lame and it probably wouldnt even crush. so we still cruise the samurai every now and then but its pretty beat up.

whew...that was a long one...now comes the pix..unfortunatley i dont have pix of all our cars but what i do have ill post up.

heres the econoline van. we were really worried about breaking this one so we never went too big with it. to this day its the only car we never broke unless you count the samurai but that things on its last legs.
