You would start to think this wasn't real EXCEPT that the Christian Evangelistic right wingers have now decided that it is CHRISTIAN to protect the environment and they're preparing to lobby GWB.

Hands up everyone who thinks GWB will do a u-turn to protect his Chritian vote ??

I swear to God it was so funny when Jay Leno spliced in Bush saying that with the Live 8 Who footage. :D

There really was a story circulating that when Bush was running for governor, he met a little boy who had some disease so Bush stopped the campaign rally and he and the boy went into a back room and prayed and the boy subsequently recovered. There were people who genuinely believed that this proves that Bush is God's own annointed choice to lead the nation.

And there was a book recently released by Pastor Rod Parsley (yes, that's his real name) on the subject of how God, in his foreknowledge, created America because he know that Islam would rise and he needed a "new Israel" to defeat them.

Yes, these are very scary times to be an American.

>>out of quriosity, where did you hear that?

While other Christian ministers are treading lightly with regard to the confrontation posed by Muslims, an Ohio pastor says he believes America was founded to see Islam destroyed.

In "Silent No More," Rod Parsley, who pastors World Harvest Church in Columbus, a city with a significant Muslim population, characterizes Islam as a "false religion" that "is responsible for more pain, more bloodshed and more devastation than nearly any other force on earth."

LONG before making any claims about any other religion it's important that Christian leaders recognise the horrors of the past 2000 years THEY have spread under the guise of "saviour" :(

I suspect another uneducated leader of an organisation trying to get headlines !!

There's a lot of money to be made in the religion business in this country and IMHO, Parsley is making his move to join the very top ranks of televangelists like Robertson or Falwell. I've known him for a long time -- he's been a regular on our local religious tv channel for over a decade now, and he's very good at rabblerousing so I wouldn't put anything past him.

Well aparently he has just admitted he believes that the rest of the world has been right about global warming. He said "the earth is warming up". :D I heard it! He also said that Kyoto didnt work for the US (something to do with the fact that he and Cheney have had something to do with oil companies) and in his opinion it doesnt work for the rest of the world. Pity they dont know that. ;)

How is it a punk band enscaptulates this mindset so well?

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindf$ck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia

Well he's right the rest of the world is pretty much f***ed if one of the biggest polluters wont sign up... :( Well you gotta do what you gotta do to gotta keep 'em oil businesses running and the american industries competitive even if that means destroying the eart eventually(!) :( What if it was the other way around? That the Kyoto-protocol was an american idea and the US was a member? Then Bush's speeches might sound a bit different...
"My fellow americans,
Iran as a nation has been polluting the earth for too long and poses a threat to America, freedom and applepie all around the world. Now you don't HATE freedom do you? So I've decided to attack Iran, to prevent violent, polluting dictators from destroying the world. And if you oppose this plan you HATE freedom and would rather live in a detention camp. Which is exactly where you'd be going.... God bless America"

Superb.

I had trouble telling which was which.

So which one said .....

"our families have for too long been under the rulership of an anti family - anti Christian government.
The moral decay brought about by liberal leadership and immoral legislation is killing the potential of our children and our country. "

.... are you guessing it was NOT the parody.
Man that is soooooooo funny :)

The truth came out in what he DIDN'T say in the clip shown on TV....
He said they were spending billions in research into knew techonologies and that the US woudl "make these available" to other nations.

So the Bush strategy is to NOT require anyone to reduce emissions until the US has developed the technologies others already have so that the US can offer them "aid" that they will be required to spend on technology from the US.

Tiem to hold the Bush administration feet to the fire of decency in the world :(

Hoepfully enough people around the world watched the Live8 concert from Edinburgh and heard Bob Geldof's closing "speech" where he pointed out that billiosn of people world wide had tuned in and supported Live8 and that when the politicians ask for their support at the ballot box "tell them to **** off" :)

Matra et Alpine

well seems the aspirations of the G8 to deliver on trade, debt and envrion, emtn didnt' make the mark as much as was hoped by all partied ( except one self-evidently :( )

"U.S. President George W. Bush had refused to be bound by the 0.7 percent target. The United States is giving 0.16 percent of national income, the smallest percentage of any of the G-8 countries."

Looks like Japan "saved the day" and put even MORE from their economy into the pot.

Damn and I'm STILL banned from 'that' site :(

Refused to be bound by International will on the environment, aid and even added strings on 'debt' relief.

Hopefully American attendees and viewers of Live8 will take up the message and not just take it as a great chance to listen to some free music :(

Well that's probably what they wanted. Now they got more money to destroy what countries like Japan tries to protect. Well the "war against terror" and "spreading freedom" isn't cheap either, but as long as there's a US elected president (woops, did i say that?) in the "liberated" countries and US businesses can compete with the rest of the worlds' who cares about pollution and destroying the enviroment?

whiteballz

its not the ammount MP, its the percentage.

it equals the same yes, but if everyone put in an equal ammount (percent) of their GDP the rate of money actually going to the cause is much higher. if that makes sence.

I had a discussion about this in my History class (we had to write up our own Treaty of Versailles, and the League of nations and how to get into it became a huge issue) that if all countries stick in the same amount, it's going to be easy for some and a struggle for others.

Percentage is a much better idea. And, even if it's a huge amount, the US isn't serious about this stuff.

So with income tax......
Should the richest only pay $100 because a guy on $500 a week pays $100 ?

Of course NOT.

If the sales tax on a $10 item is $1 then shoudl it only be a $1 on a $10,000 car ??

OF COURSE NOT.
