what would you do to an early 911 if you wanted it to be an awesome track car (fast, great handleing etc) but also look good and be streetable?

keep it standard and learn out to drive it. That would keep you busy enough for some years. :D

heres what i would do (by early i mean 1978 btw):

yellowbird body:
http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html

bbs lm wheels: (i would get replicas of them because i dont want to pay $900 each for 18" rims with no tires, these are 17" )
http://www.tirerack.com/servlet/CallJsp?target=wheelSearchCloseUp&wheelIndex=0&sizeIndex=0&showRear=yes&setIndex=0&filterSize=&filterFinish=&filterSpecial=

big red brake kit

suspension up grade (couldnt find a good brand)

exhaust

sports seats:
http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_street.asp?id=403

any other things to make it better

dude its not rice if you modify the engine and it looks good :D

and also if i got one i wouldnt modify the engine except maybe exhaust because 220hp in a 2500lb car is more than enough for a first car :)

I would just tune the engine and suspension. Would't change the looks.

What do you mean by "early" ??

If you MEAN early then for God's sake leave it alone !!!

The first 911s are beautiful and as has been said will TEACH more about driving than any tuned-up, riced-over POS

Just be careful with the handling- it swings like a pendulum, the old car. The handling can get a bit lai-lair-whoa-lairy in the wet.

Yes- Yellowbird body.
And a nice Porsche 3.3 Turbo unit. Ask Franco Sbarro for one :D
Oh, and get some nice wheels... I don't know the name of the cool ones, but I'll find a pic. THEY MUST BE BLACK.

Aint that the damn truth!! Make sure you do all your braking before going into a turn, you lift off the throtle or God forbid, step on the breaks in the middle of a turn and the tail will swing around to say "hi...we're gonna crash now" :)

don't forget that the sixties 911 was once homologated as a touring car, a homologation was later reversed as there was no competition left in the two litre class. So you could build up a contemporary racing 911, with double the trickiness of driving a standard one :)

and why WOUDLN'T you compete in a classic 911 and test the driving skills ?

Woudl YOU want to put a modern 911 on low profile, WIDE tyres through here .... ?

nah, MUCH bigger fun thn taking through a Scoobie.
Modern sh!t is all botu just having the balls to go that fast. The car sorts it all out and medocre drivers look good :)

NOW, take a 911 ( or alpine :) ) through snow at speed and you REALLY know the limits of your driving skills AND cojones :) Hell even a MINI gives me more of a buz than modern machinery !!

I saw one for sale at a car boot. It was pretty cheap, but I didn't like the colour.

my porsche
07-18-2005, 01:38 PM
for me itd have to be black, silver grey, orange (childhood memories of my aunt's car, we called it the cheeto) or white what color was the one you saw?

VtecMini
07-18-2005, 01:55 PM
It was a joke, albeit a shoddy one. I was referring to IWantAnAudiRS6's post, I probably should have quoted it for clarity.

VtecMini
07-18-2005, 01:58 PM
So I figured! Heh. They don't often appear at car boot sales either, oddly enough...

On a side note, there's a thread somewhere about choosing a colour for an old 911 iirc.
