Ok for my site i want to send a link to somebody so that when they click on the link, the download window pops up with only a white screen in the back ground. An example of which would be this link for Truck Dismount.

http://jet.ro/dismount/rekkaturvat/download.cgi?exe

Id like to know the tag for it, and how to do any more steps that are needed for it to work... thanks. :)

NO clear what you want from that descrption and the link doesn't work.
Try and go a little earlier on the web page and describe what you want to do.

Javascript call to window.open will create the new window for you. You can then spoof the onload option to enforce a download. I'd need to chekc the specific script for that, but that's one of the tricks. As it may not be what you are ACTUALLY trying to do I'll not waste time looking up the wrong things.

Go to step one and describe what YOU WANT YOUR WEB PAGE TO DO.

There are many ways of achiving things and describing it in terms of 1/4 of another web page isn't the best way to then be able to advise.

Also what server side scripting do you ahve availabel to you and what browsers/security do you want to be able to work with ??

Right, THAT is a .exe, by default the browser will DOWNLOAD the executable file.
All you have to do is put an <a href "matra.exe">Click here to download the matra app</a>

That will do the pop-up.
IF you want to have another blank window pop before the fiel download pop-up then dependant on browser you might be able to use the target tag and point it to a non-existant file :)
IF you want a complete window that is under your control ( that doesnt' look like the standard download window ) THEN you need to get writing in Java :)

Let me PLEASE repeat.
tell waht you ACTUALLY want to do and WHY.
There are a million ways to do this VERY easy and so far you're pasting indistinct windows that show half a story and is wasting time :(

ACTUALLY I've just checked, that IS the FF stadnard download pop-up.
If your file is an exe it will happen.
PS: There is NO "white" balnk windo on the link in the first thread.
SO PLEASE go back to step one on the wen page you want to copy and provide a link !!!

href tags can link to ANY file type.
It depends on the browsers and configurations what they typcailly do with them.
So for example .exes are normally always download by default and .htm are display.

What is a "wmp" file ?
Windows Media Player files are usually "wmv".

By "link to" do you want it to OPEN or play using Windows Media Player or what ?

( I don't moonlight as a dentist :( )

You know that for SURE do you ?

The thing about computing and web is you HAVE to be accurate and precise.
Otherwise you get the wrong answer - GIGO - so hence the QUESTION asking to confirm the meaning.

Man I hate noobs :(

To "assume" makes an ASS out of U and ME :)
I don't. In this business it needs accuracy or you get wooly answers....
