This M5 arrived in Taiwan last week and the accident happened just a few days after it passed Taiwanese car inspection. When the accident happened, the car only had temporary testing license plates and had no insurance on the car (Taiwanese car insurance is on car, rather than driver like North America). The accident happened during a magazine road test against an E55 AMG.

The driver was trying to take a corner with very uneven road surface, and lost the backend, hit the divider, flipped the car 3 and a half rotations, and stopped by a tree. 3 passengers were in the car, 2 of which walked away without a single scratch, 1 has a minor scratch on his arm.

Car was totaled, as it's structure is damaged beyond repair, but no one was seriously hurt. M5 is defintley a very safe car.

The magazine that's responsible for this on the other hand, will have to pay for the car, which is worth a bit more than 200k USD. since their car didn't have insurance yet at the time of the accident.

That's the second rather knackered E60 M5 I've seen that "just" stepped out at the back.

Popular excuse or handling flaw?

It could be a case of Audi TT syndrome.

Would you like to remove those pictures from your quote.

As for "Quattro" - having two extra driven wheels doesn't
a) stop you from sliding - that is to do with the level of grip between the tyres and road. Having the wheel driven or not doesn't make the tyre, or the road surface, and grippier.

b) stop you from driving like an idiot. Anyone can crash anything if they try hard enough.

we should hang the driver!

Because you know it was their fault... Oh, no wait a moment... You weren't there you can't possibly know what happened.

This pathetic crap always gets me slightly riled.

Do you know what caused the crash?

Do you know it was driver error that caused the crash?

Would you have "saved" the precious M5 if you had been driving?

No to all of the above.

So why are you so keen to shoot your mouth off?

Lets face it - if you were given the keys of an M5 you'd probably have it sticking out of a ditch within seconds - so lets have less of this hypocritical macho nonsense shall we?

Having fun isn't necessarilly the same thing as, give me a shotgun so I can kill him and leave his wife/children fatherless.

To those who think that's funny, I hope someone says the same about you and your family. Its called a mistake, and at any point, to say that you would kill him because of a stupid accident is not funny, even if you don't mean it.
I don't care if you're not going to do it, it isn't funny
You want someone to say that about you if you were in the driver's position? Think about that.

EDIT: That wasn't directed at you Rock.

it actually isnt, it depends on the application, the added weight from the awd system could hinder performance if they're a significant percentage of the car's overall weight, and if the engine isnt strong to begin with 4wd wont be any help

weight distribution (which is akin to engine placement) and suspension setup is much more important

you should be lined up and shot

how many times have you had to brake suddenly or swirve to avoid an idiot motorist, just because he lost control doesnt mean he deserves to be prosecuted
