Hey guys.

I just got this old Polaroid camera down at the op shop for a steal at only 2 dollars. Thing is, I dunno how the f**k it works. Anyone got any ideas how it works or in general any information on it?

Its got a Polatronic 5 Flash, and it says on the front "SonarAutoFocus 5000"

Its a Poloroid Land Camera, model number 2390.

Did a little research and apparently it "Has self-contained battery to power camera" . Must explain why I couldn't find a place to put any batteries.

IT says in the flim compartment "FILM: POLAROID SX-70" leading me to believe it was A SX-70 series camera. But from what research i've done SX-70's were folding cameras, and my one certainly isn't.

I put some batteries in the flash to see if it was working (theres a Red LCD light on it) but when I switched it on that didn't light up so i'm presuming its not working.

That film range was used in folding and non-folding versions.
Not sure, but it's possibel it needs power in the camera before the flash will swithc on- just guessing though. We turfed one of these when I was a kid :)

Thing is how can I get some power in the camera? I read that it has an integrated battery, I dunno whats happening with that. is there anyway i can tell now if the camera is alive and working?

And if that doesn't work a good punch or two always does the trick. That's how I always fix my tv's problems. :)

are you sure it doesn't run on Windows, because what I can tell it's as f**ked up as Windows. If so: you're screwed!!

Polaroids are legendary, don't lair!

Well, at least it was cheap, and you can look like Guy Pearce in Memento, if you have a Jaguar XK8 and a sexy suit ;)

My words aon early ones are based on EXPERIENCE.
My dad had the first EVER 'domestic' polaroids and continued to get 'new' ones each year for work.
I'll scan a few and show you HOW bad - and how bad i Looked in 70s 'style' and long hair :)

Edit: Heh.

Didn't Polaroid go out of business? I remember about 2-3 years ago their stock was like $.02 a share and there was talk of bankruptcy.

Yep, they're now owned - "merged" (!) - by Petters Group who are a technology merchandisindg specialist.
Polaroid retained a strong brand in the professional photographer BUT lost out with the demise of instant cameras and a failed attempt to start up a digital business. They tried portabel DVD players and flat screens but all pretty much bombed here in the UK !!

i have one, my mom gave it to me. mines a polasonic autofocus 5000, and i think the flash... or something is polaroid 2390. the batteries go in on the side of the flash for mine at least.

it's sx-70 film. that film was discontinued a couple years ago, now they make sx-70 blend. its 37$ for 20 exposures.
