BUT they don't use sound. I don't know how it works, but bats are all deaf. So how the hell are they gunna pick up sound??? I remember reading this when I was younger in a SCIENCE TEXTBOOK. Last time I looked, you weren't educating the 9th grade :p

I'm Chariman of local High School and responsible for it and links with the 5 feeder primaries in the area. So your assumption was wrong.
and WHO told you bats are deaf ?? Cos they arent' - well unless there is an odd species around that doesnt' use echo-sounding to catch prey !!
As I'd said if you looked to find the difference between echo and sonar you'd find they are really the same. Sonar uses the echo for precise ranging and direction :)

Submarines use sonar but airplanes do not. To explain further, bats can't use sonar because they don't have periscopes
