Maserati mystery

Does anyone know which Maserati this is? I think it is a 5000 GT with the body by Ghia, but I am not sure. Help.

Any other info and pix will of the 5000 GT line is also helpful, as I know that a number of bodies were used.

Hmmmm....looks a lot like a Fiat Dino, but it's certainly not...

This does not happen too often but its not known by me either
I think you could be right as to it being based or at least inspired by the 5000 GT
Nevertheless it looks rather small for that and the styling has Iso Grifo overtones to it

The car's nose certainly looks like a Ghia from early 1960s...
And it does have a Maserati badge...

However, the only 5000 GT with Ghia bodywork (#103.018) looked like this :confused:

Perhaps it is a 3500 GT?
Or a non-Ghia 5000 GT?

After doing some digging, I found out that indeed it is a 3500 GT. However, the references that I found, place the body as a Moretti work from 1966. I was not aware that Moretti did any bodies for Maserati at all.

I was reading on this website that one of the 5000 GT's was rebodied by Vignale. Do you think that instead of the Mexico Prototype that could be the afformentioned Vignale rebody? I have not found anything else mentioned about it.

Personally I love the Aga Khan 5000 GT, a strange combination of QP1 and mistral but somehow it works

Here is a story of 5000GT #103.022 (source:www.pietro-frua.de, www.deutschermaseraticlub.de)

Maserati 5000GT by Allemano #103.022 was originally sold to President Adolfo López Mateos of Mexico in 1961 and later sold to Senor Diaz Barroso of Mexico. In 1965 the car was extensively damaged in an accident, and was sent back to factory for repair. During this visit, Barroso spotted the Vignale prototype and bought it. He asked for the new body to be mounted on his 5000GT chassis and given its chassis number in order to avoid Mexican import duties.

So, back to your question: is it a Vignale prototype or a rebodied 5000GT?
I'd say they are one and the same :)

No This one is a 3500 by Moretti s/n AM 101.1858 :)

Is a 5000 by Ghia, the only one, correct chassis number, and designed by Michelotti. And maybe not so ugly if you look with eyes of the sixties

Where was the first picture taken? Old photo, '05 but restoration looks pretty fresh. Amelia or Meadowbrook? PB had a 5000 class/display years ago IIRC. Haven't seen since that I remember. +1 on the Khan car.
