It's ridiculous in the UK. $2800 a YEAR fully comp on a 1.0 Lupo for a first time driver. Outrageous.

Or alternatively Fully Comp on a Quantum 1.6 for an 18 year old first time driver for $400 :)

lay off S_R, age is an important part of the equation for insurance in some countries if not all, it was a reasonable request ........

how the hell do you guys pay so little? My insurance would cost 2000 dollars a year, so i drive without it. Its retarted. U pay insurance, get into a accident, and they raise ur rates, so basically you pay for the accident yourself.

sorry O, THE most "retarded" thing is to drive a car without insurance !!!!

If you cant' afford the insurance then take the bus or walk.

Your insurance also pays for OTHERS in the event of an accident.

Please tell me you're joking ..............

Here in connecticut, it is illegal to drive without insurance, and the state will take your vehicle if it is not insured.

It's illegal to drive a car without insurance here to.

BUT ..........

There are seemingly 1.5million drivers on British roads who are uninsured !!!

Currently it is a fixed penalty of 200 pounds. So for a young driver it is 1/10th of the cost of insurance so little surprise that some criminals chose that option and take the risk of beign caught !!!

This is curretnly out for review with various suggestions for increased fixed penalty as well as impounding the vehicle - which is now possibel fi road tax isnt' paid. The latter is being setup to become fairly automatic with the latest generation license plate identification video cameras linked to comptuer database for automatic detection. It's being proposed that IF insurance was made a criminal offence then they coudl integrate this with road tax avoidanc eand automatically detect uninsured cars on the road. I favour this as it will be MUCH more difficult to avoid detection.

in my case i deal with a fairly sane insurance company through dads business - using a private company cuts through a lot of the shit you have to deal with normally ;)
