Does anyone know a good way to remove decals from a diecast model?
I'd like to get rid of the sponsorship on a diecast F1 model that also has some plastic parts which hopefully won't be damaged.
Will acetone do the trick? Would it damage the paint?
I would like to not damage the paint but its OK if it happens since i will be repainting the barge boards and wings anyway.
Thanks for any info.

want to get this...

would steam do the trick? I am not sure, but it could work. There are some products called sticker remover, but how that would affect paint i don't know

most diecast are painted just like cars, except with out clear coat (i think), so i woudl think if you got some adhesive, bug and tar remover that you woudl use for washing your car, that should work there too..

why are you taking the sponsor stuff off? give it a custom look?

Diecast graphics are tampo printed, not decals. You might try rubbing off the graphics with 91% alcohol...but it might affect the paint also.

thanks for all the tips! ive got an old diecast i dont like that ill try them on first.
or i might just be "lazy" and get the revell 1/24 F2003 but its soooo small.

i just like the look of the F1 cars without sponsors better, the decals spoil the shape IMO. henk4 is right about the second car pictured. I'm not trying to recreate it exactly on an F2003 but it will be similar.

Hi, I always use nail polish remover (aceton). This works perfect on the metal parts.
On the plastic parts however, the paint also will come off....

Just dip a cotton swab into the aceton and start gentle rubbing on the decal. It will dissolve almost instantly!

The 2nd pic is the Ferrari that ran at Monza after 9/11. I'm trying to get my Enzo LM to look similar.
