View Full Version : Worst Car Name

I'm looking for the worst car name in English, especially from an English-speaking company.

I think the worst is the Dodge Ramraider (!). It's a re-badged Mitsubishi Montero and, while it would be successful in ramraiding, I don't think that's their target market.

Seriously Q, he said worst names from an "English-speaking company" as in funny, stupid or bad names... Not the names of the brands that you hate... Which don't even qualify as he was actually looking for American, Australian, British, etc names.

Anything that an uneducated person might confuse with a section of a stadium parking lot. A8, Q45, G35.......you get the picture. But as for one with a name, I don't really like the Mirage. Sounds alright, but it is "less than it appears."

Wrong. Citroen did FWD first with the Traction Avant in 1934.

Not english speaking but I always found Mitsubishi Starion to be funny - because the Japs meant it to say Stallion.
And is it true that Pajero means 'wanker' in Spanish?

Wrong :) , first mechanical 4WD was built by Spyker in 1902.

Check that, a bit of research shows Alvis actually experimented with FWD long before the Traction avant. However Traction Avant takes the cake for introducing it to the masses and putting it in Mass Production.

and Graf had it in the 1890s ( of course not in the same way, the engine was mounted on a turntable with the wheels at the front - but hey FWD :) )

Does ox and cart count as drive is not through the rear wheels ?? :D

never been owned my friend, The DKW brand played a key role in making front-wheel drive more popular. When the first DKW ‘Front’ (the F 1) was introduced in February, this was the first occasion on which a front-wheel drive vehicle had been produced in high volume; its first task was to succeed against well-established competitors with rear-wheel drive. Picture: DKW F 8 Meisterklasse of 1939, with twin-cylinder two-stroke engine, 700 cc, 20 bhp, front-wheel drive. owned my @ss! :)

Well, the Kia range in general- Cerato, Magentis...

How about this one: Back in the 80's, Mitsubishi released a cool coupé called the Colt Starion. Jeremy Clarkson used one in Top Gear recently. A colt is a young male horse, and who can forget the long running joke of the Japanese mxing up their R's with their L's. Starion = Stallion = Horse = a Colt coupe with bad translation...

hmmm, is going to school really exploring?
with it's heavy body and it's poor suspension, you wont be doing much exploring, but with the hiD DVD system, Jimmy won't bother you while he's going to school, so what if it gets 15 MPG?

Bold = Enough said.

Stop trying to bash what you can't bash. I could say that Audi owes the Cavemen some credit for inventing the wheel - hence allowing them to build cars... But it would be irrelevant, and stupid... Just like your post :)

Just so you know, many Japanese cars have AWD and RWD.

Yes they do have AWD/RWD...BUT! what helped them to be come successful in early 60's? it wasn't the AWD/RWD.

As I said before, the Citroen Traction Avant was the FIRST FWD to go into MASS PRODUCTION (Unless it was Cord but as far as I know that was limited production?) not the DKW F1. The Traction Avant was produced in HIGH VOLUMES.

hadn't known about the F1.

Did a bit of digging round some books and clubs and it does seem the F1 was in serious production. Might have to give that one back to the Germans. The F series were in production from 31 through 42. Turns out the F1s were race winners due to FWD :)

sorry bro but in the 1931 DKW F 1 was the car that introduced front-wheel drive to the mass-produced car for the first time. (Compact power train with its twin-cylinder two-stroke engine, 600 cc, 18 bhp.If my source is wrong! im going to kick there @ss's.... :)

How about the optimistically named -
Daihatsu Applause?
I once read a very uncomplimentary Aussie road test of Daihatsu Applause. The reviewer absolutely hated the little Daihatsu (slow, tinny, underpowered, lousy brakes etc) and slammed the car unmercifully. He concluded his critique by claiming that the Applause was only marginally preferrable to the clap
