You just got your permit ? How long before you get your license ? For $2000 you can get an OK car... Autotrader people tend to price there cars a lil high. Plus you won't find much for $2000 in there anyways. You'll find the best deals in the newspaper under Used Cars or something like that. ;)

Doesn't really matta what car you get right now since all you got is $2000. A honda would be your best bet but if you can find a 240 in that range, do it to it. Just make sure its in good shape and have a mechanic check it out before you buy it. ;)

And don't forget maintanence....he'll have to sell his whole house to keep those things alive.

Just a simple sportscar like the Miata, but cheaper. It's light, quick, cheap, reliable, RWD, offers a manual tranny, and the aftermarket is loaded.

The Eagle TAlon is built by Mitsubishi, so it will have the maitnence record of an Eclipse (it is a rebadged one of course)

And how much would one cost?

I don't disagree that Mitsubishi being Japanese - their spare parts and what not are slightly cheaper but the Eclipse's maintenance isn't exactly the cheapest of the three digit numbers.

You in a 3000GT?

Insurance will be you worst nightmare. Not to mention, you don't need a car with that much power. It'd be stupid.

My 1st car was a VR4, and the only way I delt with that power was driving my father's 944.

And even when I started driving it, my 1st 4 months were hell controlling it, and I hardly drove it through it the 1st few months because I didn't have insurance at the time.

A 16 year old with a 3000GT with just a permit is going to eat anything left of your $2000.

those startin to hurt me pockets, even on the 240sx(i have a ahh......bad O2 sensor which i haven't bein able to buy cause i don't have $30), it was like ~2.2x just a couple of days ago but now its 2.45 for regular, damn why do they have to do this!!!!!!!.

i would not recommend a 240sx cause it would be your first car......and so i don't want to see yet another 240sx crashed(the 240sx likes to fish tail on wet roads), but if the car has been taken care of its a reliable car.(people have put turbo's at 8+ psi on 200k + miles on the engine without major rebuild)

btw eagle talon/eclipse's reliability is relly bad, specially since they put dodge neon engines in there.(cause of chrysler)

My first *legal* driving experience was being chucked into a V8 Holden Commodore and told to "just drive". :) It's initially pretty daunting being surrounded by other cars, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Have fun. :)

My SL2 has cost me as much in repairs as I paid for it initially.

And how is a two-door coupe giant? True it's longer than a Subaru Outback wagon, a Chevy Equinox and a Chrysler Concorde (the only ones I remember parking it next to and noticing), but that doesn't make it huge does it? :)

I guess any model Saturn must be Chrysler like pieces of Garbage.
My parents are in the same situation with our 1998 Caravan, we could build another Caravan with the money we spent to keep it running, plus a new Transmission at 60,000 miles showed that It may not last much longer. I bet out 1993 Ford Escort will out live it, and the Escort already is creeping uyp on the 150,000 mark! I guess this is what we get for not buying another Ford and trying something diffrent!

Then The Escort, 150,000 miles, still have it, and it runs like it just came out of the factory. Then we bought the caravan. 75,000 miles, new trans, gaskets, powersteering pump, fuel inujectors, clutch, spark plugs (they were supposed to last 100,000 miles they said in the brocures, who are they kidding?) new wires, aribag failure, the list goes on and on.....

Believe me, I've got you beat.

30k miles - first new transmission (they can't explain why the bolt that holds the spider gears sheers off and shoots out the side of the transmission case while backing out of a parking space) and new ignition module

60k miles - new alternator, two new rear power windows

80k miles - new engine due to failed connecting rod

90k miles - second new transmission (they can't explain how the casing split all the way down the middle

95k miles - wiring in the center console burns itself up leaving me without air conditioning/fan/power windows/radio in 100 degree heat. Repair shop flabbergasted that all ran through a single 7volt wire.

110k miles - head cracks on 2nd engine

115k miles - rear power windows disintegrate again - I can actually hear parts grind up and fall into the bottom of the door.

120k miles - new water pump, alternator, a/c compressor

140k miles - driver's door power window finally stops working after intermittently stopping over 1-month period.

All of this and there's been a constant electrical gremlin that randomly turns on the windshield wipers, erases my radio presets and flashes the dome light while driving down the road.

The only reason I still drive the thing is that it's paid off.

well the caravan LEMON was acting up again this morning. it was hesitent to start going again. It could be as minor as engine sludge to major as a trans or driveaxle.

but all I can say is LEMON.

but yeah, that saturn is a bigger LEMON than the caravan, I never thought there was a car more unreliable as a 1995+ Chrysler.

It's really not fair to base an entire company on one car, or even worse on one example of one car. Caravans are the best selling minivan for the past 20 years for a reason.

I hate my Saturn. But, it's been through a lot and is still running. And I certainly don't hate Saturn as a company. I think they make fine vehicles and, if it weren't for just subjective personal feelings from my experience, I'd buy another Saturn. I don't doubt the quality of the company itself or its products. I don't know of anyone else having problems with their Saturn like I have.

also consumer reports claims that since 1995 Chrysler has had a poor reliability record, and CR is the most trustworthy magazine.
