new falcon and territory will be realesed in october following the sydney motor show :)
d
Upgrades to the BF Falcon and SY Territory range have included the following:

· A reworked Barra 190 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine offering significant increases in fuel economy, more refinement and increases in power and torque

· More power and torque in the turbocharged engine for the Falcon XR

· More power and torque in the 3-valve SOHC V8 engine

· A world-class ZF six-speed automatic transmission available in
premium Falcon sedans and utes, and AWD versions of Territory

· An improved ION four-speed automatic transmission

· Introduction of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission on XR6 sedan

· New exterior styling for the Falcon range, including Fairlane and Falcon Ute

· New interior upgrades for all models

· New wheel designs for XT, Futura, Fairmont, Fairmont Ghia, XR and XLS

· New Fairlane G8 (replacing Fairlane G220)

It seems every model is getting an updated and more power allround.
Its a pretty good counter considering mitsi australia's claims about how "big" there 380 will be and the VE commodore still way off
and ford australia have claimed a increase of fuel efficency of 5-11% while increasing power to 190kw.

i hope they shed some weight as well but its proberly unlikely

things are looking arsome for ford australia :p

can the Barra 6 pull 6th in a T56? Anyway, the ZF 6 speed should be good, and i hope the new wheels look good, the BA mk2 ones are a bit off

Although im not doubting the validity of this info, but where did you get it? All the media is under an embargo to shuttup until 12am tonight over it

can the Barra 6 pull 6th in a T56?

The outgoing motor has 380nm at 3250rpm, so its definately got some low end urge. I'd say it'd only do it with the 0.6 6th cog, not Holdens 0.5

The XR6s run a relatively short diff don't they, like 3.5, 3.75 something like that? that'd help wouldn't it?

fpv_gtho

3.45 for the manual

its 3.23 standard in the XT, 3.45 in the XR6 manual, XR8 manual and XR6T auto. Only the T6 gets the 3.73 diff. it would be possible to slip in the Tezza's 4.1, but people who have done it claim that its slightly too much and that 3.9 would be ideal, but Dana dont produce a unit to that ratio

lets just say i know a high up ford employee who sent me a employee newsletter

theres going to be a press realease by ford on wednesday so i thought i would give ultimatecarpage users a heads up on the model updates

Unfortunately the XR8 and GT's engines aren't going to get any extra kw's but they will get better efficency

Ive heard elsewhere (and theres spy pics to back it up) that they'll get a dual exhaust. Im not too worried about peak power, but some more low-mid range torque would be good. Perhaps being under a seperate company, we wont know until later what exactly FPV will be doing?

I was told today that the new BF Falcon will be relaeased in November this year - no BA MkIII. I was also told that the na 6s will have 190kw and the cars equipped with the new 6 speed auto (including Fairmont) will be as quick as the current XR6Ts. Dunno about that, but yeah.

Syko, any ideas on the new output for the XR6T?

syko
08-16-2005, 06:28 AM
i can only assume that the extra umpf given to the barra will translate to more power in the XR6T but its unlikely it will be as much as the XR8

iam guessing that the realease will be late october considering how little information has been released compared to when they released the BA

SlickHolden

It's a big jump from 4 speed auto to 6 speed auto, The one's who pay more for the expensive cars with 6 speed auto will fell like a million $.

My nephew runs a 3.9 in his LSD on the VL Calais.

The barra6 getting a little extra power and torque is good, They will be anticapating holden's Alloytech190 being alloytech200 maybe some extra torque also in VE with it's fatness:p
But BF XR8 not getting any extra power is strange. Unless they again are anticapating holden only having 260kw LS2 to play with with the fatness again:p

But they could have done the 6 speed and extra power before we got the terra in october:D

fpv_gtho
08-16-2005, 06:39 AM
I think its a given the Alloytecs wont increase for VE, or at least only marginally.

What they really need though is a set of DOHC heads for the V8 that are VCT compatible, as currently the SOHC engine has more low en urge than even the GT

SlickHolden
08-16-2005, 06:44 AM
That's a funny one hey:) Get a XT and drag the GT from the lights wouldnt they get shitty:D So where about would they get them heads from?
They could work on more torque for the Alloytech after the Adventra they did say it struggled a little with that weight not that the VE will be 2tone. But some extra work on refinment and torque would help it out.

DrGonzo
08-16-2005, 06:45 AM
Thats surprises me about XR8 having no extra power too - rumour has it that LS2 will be big on power.Alloytechs won't increase (so I've been told) but all models will have alloytech - not just the SV6 and Calais.
Back onto the BF topic, I was also told today that it will be lighter than BA (that was a heavy bastard!) thanks to aluminium suspension parts.

SlickHolden
08-16-2005, 07:00 AM
Thats going to hit holden in the semi lobo:p Rumors are it's a fat one:p
But i guess time will tell how genny craig it will be.
Fpv_gtho was saying when the alloytech175 first cam out that it was a bit of a dissapointment for GM that motor it wasnt what they hoped for.
They shouldnt have wasted there time with it anyway just the 190 was only needed. And work on that1.

DrGonzo
08-16-2005, 07:04 AM
The 190 is a good engine - its only let down is its tranny.. but I think Holden have/are fixing that anyways.

Ford's new Falcon
Kevin Hepworth
17aug05

Ford has fired the first shot in what promises to be a vicious battle for the dwindling dollars of the large family sedan market.

With Mitsubishi set to send its Magna replacement, the 380, to the market at the end of next month and Holden playing a waiting game with the significantly changed VE Commodore due next year, Ford has taken the initiative.

It has announced the first details of the new BF Falcon range this week, more than two months ahead of its sale date.

While external changes from the BA to the BF are slight, the new models will offer significant improvements in power, fuel economy and, for the first time in an Australian-made vehicle, a six-speed automatic option — and a couple of wild new colours.

"Every Falcon and Territory owner will appreciate the noticeable improvements in performance, refinement and fuel economy," Ford Australia president Tom Gorman promised.

"Importantly, all the improvements we've made have been driven by customer feedback."

In revealing the new car, Mr Gorman conceded the downturn in sales for large family sedans — the heartland of the Australian automotive industry, with Falcon, Commodore, Magna and Camry on every family's shopping list, had taken Ford by surprise.

"It has been a difficult segment for some time but I do believe we underestimated the trend a little," Mr Gorman said.

"However, while it is down as a percentage of the overall market it is still a very significant part of what could still be a million-unit (new car sales) year. When you have a 33 per cent share of a segment that size you had better take it seriously."

The full extent of the changes to BF Falcon will be revealed at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October, when Mitsubishi will also take the covers off its 380.

Inside Ford's new Falcon
The Age
Wednesday August 17 2005

Ford has given its venerable Falcon the biggest makeover in three years. But as TOBY HAGON reports, the big changes are under the bonnet

It will take a keen eye to spot the first notable update to the Falcon range in three years. But at least owners will get to hold a more upmarket and stylish key.

The humble Falcon, rescued from poor sales just a few years ago, is preparing for renewed large-car competition, sporting a facelift that sees the BA series become the BF.

It is crucial for Ford Australia, which has to fend off an all-new Commodore VE next year and interest in Mitsubishi's Magna replacement, the 380.

Large-car sales are down and the share of the big two Australian players - the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon - are slumping as competition heats up.
advertisement

But the large-car game is about to shift up a gear and Ford's Falcon headlines the action.

So what's changed for the BF Falcon? Lots, or not much, depending on what you consider significant.

Codenamed "Copperhead" internally, the biggest change is the new ZF six-speed automatic transmission, fitted to selected premium models (base variants will continue with a revised version of the four-speed auto). It is the first Australian-made car to have a six-speed auto and introduces a world-class transmission locally to Ford. The transmission is also used in the BMW 7-Series and the Jaguar XJ.

Along with performance and fuel economy improvements, the smart six-speed helps make the most of an ageing engine.

The Falcon's engines have been updated but in an evolutionary way. Deep down, they're the same, which means a 4.0-litre in-line six-cylinder for most of the line-up and two 5.4-litre V8s (with different power outputs) on selected models.

The turbocharged version of the six-cylinder also continues.

All now meet emission regulations that affect all cars sold in Australia next year.

The 4.0-litre six-cylinder has a more advanced variable valve timing system that adjusts the intake and exhaust camshafts independently for improved efficiency and a lower idle speed.

Power is up from 182 kW to 190 kW (picking up the name Barra 190 in the process). This is ostensibly the same as the maximum output of the most potent of Holden's new 3.6-litre V6s, the Alloytec 190. But Ford and Holden use different international standards to measure engine output. Ford's results in bigger figures by a few per cent.

For the popular turbo version, power is up 5 kW to 245 kW ( the Barra 245T), which is plenty, while torque climbs to 480 Nm, up 30 Nm.

The entry-level V8s are improved, with the addition of knock sensors that allow more spark advance to increase output by 10 kW and 30 Nm to 230 kW and 500 Nm (called the Barra 230). That's still down on the Holden Gen III 5.7-litre V8 that delivers 235 kW in its base form. But Ford is relying on its muscular low-rev performance as a significant selling point. Another selling point is its more prominent V8 growl, courtesy of a revised exhaust.

The Boss 260 (for 260 kW) in the XR8 sports model remains unchanged.

Fuel consumption benefits claimed for the BF couldn't be more timely: large cars are on the wane, thanks to $1.20 a litre petrol, and customers are favouring small cars.

The Falcon is the thirstiest of the Australian-made cars, which has a heavy influence on price-conscious fleet buyers.

Various changes in the drivetrain have provided the volume-selling Falcons with a claimed 5.2 per cent improvement in fuel economy, to a combined figure of 10.9 L/100 km.

The Fairmont Ghia, one of the recipients of the new six-speed transmission, has an 11.3 per cent reduction to 10.2 L/100 km.

According to Ford Australia powertrain development supervisor Ian Cole, "customers will notice the difference every time they fill up their car".

Visually there's not much new, and the basic interior layout and available space is much the same.

Designers have taken the easier (and cheaper) option of changing plastics - a popular ploy at this stage of a car's life. If you look closely, you'll notice revised front bumpers.

The Fairmont Ghia also gets some subtle chrome treatment and redesigned fog lights to lift the mood of its face. The XR models get a more pronounced front bumper with bold bars in a lower grille. The volume-selling XTs and Futuras make do with some mild changes.

Wheels, trim colours and materials, tail lights and colours have been also altered to freshen the BF's appearance.

But why no total makeover?

Ford vice-president of product development Trevor Worthington says customers didn't ask for it.

"All the research we did after (the) BA (model), customers said they didn't want much changed. So there's visual changes at the front and rear," he says.

Ford is staying quiet on improvements to the Falcon's equipment, mainly because the BF doesn't go on sale until late October.

But among expected safety improvements is an electronic stability program (ESP) - which can brake individual wheels to help control a slide - on some models, including the Fairmont, Fairmont Ghia, XR6 Turbo and XR8, and the luxury long-wheelbase models, the Fairlane and LTD. But the XTs and Futuras will miss out on the feature.

But the curtain airbags that arrived in the Territory aren't available in any Falcon-based sedan.

"They just don't fit," Mr Worthington says. "But the important thing, from a crash perspective, is that you have side airbags with head protection, which we've got."

Pricing is a closely guarded secret, but Ford says the new models will be competitive. Some increases seem inevitable, considering the extra features and refinements.

Many of the changes will flow to the Falcon-based Territory off-road wagon, which picks up the model code SY (currently SX).

But it's a minor update. The Territory gets a fresh colour palette and an automatic headlights-on feature for the entry-level model.

All-wheel-drive models, a little less than half of all sales, pick up the ZF six-speed automatic. The rear-drive models make do with a revised version of the four-speed.

As a sweetener for the rear-drive models - expected to maintain their $4000 price advantage over the AWD model - the ESP system will be fitted across the range.

Territory fuel economy has been improved to a combined 12.2 L/100 km for rear-drive models and 12.8 L/100 km for AWDs.

There is also a new transmission selector lever that differentiates the interior ever so slightly.

The shakedown

It's a grey day in Geelong and the clouds are threatening. We're perched on a hill in Highton, with a Ford Fairlane that looks like any other on the road - except for the black tape covering crucial aspects of the first major changes to the Falcon and Fairlane since the BA model arrived in 2002.

This is our introduction to the BF model, due in dealerships in October.

Our steed is a Fairlane Ghia and the purpose of the exercise is a final engineering sign-off of Ford's big local hope. First, I'm in the back seat observing before the forms are signed and the validated components sent to the production line.

Up front is Ford's product and development vice-president Trevor Worthington, and Falcon and Territory vehicle line director Russell Christophers. We're ready to tackle a road loop designed to test everything from performance and ride to road-holding and quality.

Fresh from an identical loop in the morning with the rival Holden long-wheelbase, jumping into the V8 Fairlane is designed to ensure the team has got it right.

As Mr Worthington explains, we are signing off how a customer would use the car - at slow speed as well as giving it some stick.

One of the most noticeable changes is the deep V8 sounds from a revised exhaust system.

Mr Worthington says V8 customers want the right sound quality. "We have a much better understanding of what good noise quality is," he says. "The market is so much more competitive now . . . people like us are looking to find the greatest amount of differentiators we can."

While our Fairlane "mule" looks nothing special, it's an important part of the development puzzle.

"In terms of the dynamics . . . it's entirely representative of how the Fairlane V8 will drive," Mr Worthington says.

Now it's my turn, and the first thing I notice is the new key and the classier transmission selector. It provides a more precise shift feel and is the only indicator of the new transmission that lurks beneath.

The German-engineered ZF six-speed is the same basic unit used in various BMWs and Jaguars, an asset Mr Worthington believes is worth the extra money.

"We worked very, very closely with (German company) ZF," he says. "I don't know if it's the fact they like beer and we like beer . . . but we worked absolutely seamlessly."

Mr Worthington says the transmission constantly monitors driver input, the road gradient, steering and cornering angles and the car's speed to select the best gear ratio.

"This transmission is absolutely intuitive," Mr Worthington says. "For example, the corner-hold feature is fantastic. When you're in a long sweeping corner it will hold the gear (for better control)."

Like the four-speed Falcons, you can shift the lever over into a separate gate, to initiate a sports mode. As well as kicking down a gear with less of a shove to the throttle, the sports mode automatically selects a gear one lower than usual.

The extra ratios also provide punchier performance, with shorter first and second ratios, and generally closer spacing that means there's a better chance the engine will be ready to react.

Changing down is better controlled, with the extra ratios providing more delicate shifts.

There are other notable changes with the BF update, but Mr Worthington and Mr Christophers are careful with their words, so as not to upset the carefully planned PR campaign.

But Mr Worthington says: "We've been doing a fair bit on ride quality, which includes new tyres and revised suspension rates, that make for a notable - if evolutionary - improvement.

"The whole idea with the suspension was for the customer to have ride and handling."

The brakes feel meatier and more up to the near-two-tonne weight of the Fairlane. They're apparently bigger, a change that should translate to other locally-produced Fords.
So how did our test car go?

Good, at least to the point of performing as expected in all but a handful of situations. A jerky gear change caught Mr Worthington's attention after an aggressive acceleration and back-off. But it's a minor calibration issue he believes will be fixed in for production.

"When you are managing the amount of power and torque that this thing's got, one of the challenges is when you're on and off the throttle," he says. "I'll probably ask that a couple of things be looked at. But from my experience of the drive this afternoon, we are ready to go (to production)."

So whats the moral of the story? Beer makes the world go round!

As the most refined and sophisticated Falcon range ever built, BF Falcon combines fresh design elements and leading edge technologies with the elegant and powerful appeal of its award-winning predecessor.

Refinements to the exterior and interior designs see the introduction of new front and rear graphics, new alloy wheel and wheel cover styles, and an array of new fabrics, trims and finishes, which gives BF Falcon a commanding presence on the Australian motoring landscape.

“BF Falcon is a refined evolution of the successful BA range of vehicles,” said Ford Australia Director of Design Simon Butterworth.

“By utilising Ford's corporate design DNA, the new BF range strengthens the Falcon brand by delivering a more dynamic, powerful and exciting front graphic, while still maintaining the elements of sophistication evident throughout the BA range.

“The rear of the car has been endorsed by improved, dynamic tail lamps that mirror the design philosophy of Falcon's distinctive and successful front.”

Sports and Luxury
The XR performance range continues to make a bold, powerful statement with the introduction of BF Falcon, building on the very successful BA XR range and drawing further inspiration from the Falcon V8 Supercar.

It also continues to forge strong links with Ford's performance heritage, expressed by the new sports front bumper featuring a deep, wide central opening and GT-style fog lights, recessed in a more angular surround with pronounced fluting.

Fairmont Ghia presents its own unique variation of the new design BF front graphic, dominated by chrome details and new foglights that replace the cornering lamps on BA MkII.

“The new Fairmont Ghia exterior design features chrome highlights across the front and along the side, which give the luxury sports model a level of jewellery and sophistication usually reserved for more luxurious European vehicles,” Butterworth said.

A chrome strip encircles the vehicle, running through the front and rear bumpers, and along the side profile courtesy of new inserts in the bodyside protection mouldings. In the front bumper, a full width chrome strip segments the lower grille opening and foglight surrounds.

Fabrics and finishes
Inside BF Falcon, a host of new trims, fabrics and finishes have been introduced to complement the modern, stylish and sporty design of the exterior, while specification enhancements on Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia build on their established prestige profile.

Falcon, Fairlane and Territory models equipped with the new six-speed automatic transmission feature a new shift lever, making it immediately distinguishable from the four-speed automatic.

“The gearshift on the six-speed automatic combines a crisp, accurate throw with a more detailed appearance, while the leather-look gearshift boot reinforces the sporty nature of the new Falcon and Territory models,” Butterworth said.

New door handles with a satin chrome insert and soft feel hand grip are fitted across the board to all Falcon, Falcon Ute and Fairlane models, endowing the cabins with a classy, prestige detail.

All Falcon models also feature new seat fabrics, fabric inserts and door trims in a range of fresh colours and technical patterns.

The Interior Command Console (ICC) and centre console surround is now finished in Titanium Stone Metallic on XT, Futura and Fairmont, as well as XL, XLS and RTV Falcon Ute models.

Falcon XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 sedans and Utes, as well as Fairmont Ghia, feature a new Liquid Metal finish on the ICC and centre console.

Fairmont and Fairlane Ghia acquire stylish new Ruby Mahogany woodgrain finishes, while Fairmont Ghia and LTD receive Rabbit Rose woodgrain finishes.

Fairmont Ghia now features an eight-way power driver's seat with memory, as fitted to the Fairlane models, while Fairmont gains the six-way power driver's seat previously fitted to Fairmont Ghia.

The key
A new ignition key further distinguishes the new Falcon, Fairlane and Territory models from their predecessors.

The new, latest generation key design offers a greater range of security code combinations for improved vehicle security, while eliminating the complexity of multiple keys for ignition and glovebox locks.

A common key, featuring a two-wave external track key design, now provides access to all external and internal vehicle locks – ignition, door and glovebox locks on Falcon-based models and ignition, door and under-seat storage box locks on Territory.

Innovative colour palette
Since the introduction of the BA Falcon in September 2002, the Falcon colour palette has successfully blended sophistication and style with innovation and excitement, delivering a unique range that caters to the wide variety of Falcon customers.

Two new exterior paint colours, Menace and Kashmir, have been introduced in the lead up to BF Falcon and SY Territory, while another five colours announce the arrival of the new generation models, including the first use of ChromaFlair paint by an Australian manufacturer:

Menace – a bold purple with an intense blue highlight, this daring metallic hue is sure to excite the sports enthusiast. Menace is only available on Falcon XR and FPV models.

Kashmir – a luxurious mid-tone European grey with golden undertones that radiates timeless elegance. Kashmir is available on the Falcon passenger range, excluding XR models, as well as Fairlane, LTD and Territory.

Toxic – beyond citrus, this new acidic yellow green is sure to turn heads. Toxic is only available on Falcon XR and FPV models.

Bionic – an explosive and exciting new blue full of energy and life. Bionic is only available on Falcon XR and FPV models.

Wired – a warm, copper metallic, rich with warmth and sophistication. Wired is available on Falcon passenger, excluding XR models, as well as Fairlane, LTD and Territory.

Déjà Vu – a classic, dark emerald green full of depth. Déjà Vu is available on all Falcon passenger models, including Falcon XR and FPV, as well as Falcon Ute, Fairlane, LTD and Territory models.

Fantasy – a vivid chameleon colour full of power, with high chromaticity and dramatic effects, which constantly changes its personality from royal purples to an amazing new blue. Fantasy is only available on Falcon XR and FPV models.

Set to become an iconic colour, the release of Fantasy marks the first use of revolutionary ChromaFlair paint technology in volume production within Australia.

Unlike the special-effect pigments of the early 1980s, which showed a subtle shift in shade, these next-generation colour-shifting pigments take on a completely different hue depending on the angle of view or light source projected upon them.

Elegant and strong
New alloy wheel and wheel cover designs have been introduced across the BF Falcon range, delivering a fresh, contemporary finish to the new vehicle line-up.

“The new design alloy wheels and wheel covers are both elegant and strong in their appearance, for a more refined aesthetic that builds on the sophisticated style of the BA range,” Butterworth said.

“The XR6 and XR6 Turbo continue the tradition of bold, performance driven, five-spoke, 17-inch designs, while the XR8 sedan has a new 18-inch alloy wheel as standard that contributes to its powerful, road-hugging stance.”

All Falcon models gain new wheel designs for an enhanced appearance, while Fairlane Ghia and LTD increase wheel size from 16" to 17" for a more dynamic driving experience.

Wheel styles
XT – a seven-spoke, 16" wheel cover in a twin-spoke style that has been designed with new resin technology and Computer Aided Engineering to deliver high strength and stiffness, while also reducing weight.

Futura – a nine-spoke, 16" alloy wheel with elegant cues.

XR6 – a five-spoke, 17" alloy wheel with a bold ‘Tuning Fork’ design (standard on XR6 and XR6 Turbo sedans and Utes, and XR8 Utes).

XR8 – a five-spoke, 18" alloy wheel with an aggressive ‘Boomerang’ spoke design and machined ‘Boomerang’ features on the spokes (standard on XR8 sedans, optional on all other XR variants).

Fairmont – a 10-spoke, 16" alloy wheel with classic lines.

Fairmont Ghia – a nine-spoke, 17" alloy wheel with a machined front face and ‘Ghia’ script on the centre cap.

Fairlane Ghia – a seven-spoke, 17" sports-luxury alloy wheel with a fully machined front face, chrome finish centre cap and ‘Ghia’ badge (16" alloy wheel at BA MkII).

Fairlane G8 – a five-spoke, 17" sports alloy wheel with a fully machined front face, chrome finish centre cap and ‘G8’ badge.

LTD – a seven-spoke, 17" sports-luxury alloy wheel with a fully machined front face, chrome finish centre cap and ‘LTD’ badge (16" alloy wheel at BA MkII).

Come on you got to laugh at some of them color names getting like holden there with funny color names now:p

So it's really a VY into VZ with they key on refinment improvement not so much on it's look but it's feel.
Or after looking at some pics maybe the VT to VX in looks.
But with so long till the all new Falcon why did they not go harder on it's looks? Are they a little uneasy on changing the looks incase it's rejected or they can't be stuffed on wasting money and stick it all in the new Falcon:)

Theyre heavy on their customer feedback now, and quite simply no one had any real complaints about the GT. Its described as more overt than bold, but in plain simple the XR's now look more like the FPV's

yeah those names are a bit weird, but they dont sound like something pulled out of their arse either, just something you wouldnt associate with colour. the big shock will be when the first pics of Fantasy come out

SlickHolden

Fantasy will have to be some sexy hot blonde number:D

I really don't know why they won't to get them anymore like the FPV range, Some use to say The VX SS and VX Clubsport looked like each other even though i thought they were on something when they said it:p

The only one's that complain about the GT are the one's that won't to buy one but want more power and end up buying it anyway and loving it.

well we still dont know what the FPV's will look like yet, so they could go more agressive as well yet.

fantasy is actually part of a new range of colours

Fantasy – a vivid chameleon colour full of power, with high chromaticity and dramatic effects, which constantly changes its personality from royal purples to an amazing new blue. Fantasy is only available on Falcon XR and FPV models.

Chameleon says it all

I hate purple as a color really, But if someone else likes it that's up to them i won't change there mind:). It's a popular color to.

there was this really bright purple ford released a few months ago...it looked halfway between blue and pink rather than a purple...

check out menace, and keep in mind those CGI's are darker than the real thing. the lighter bits there are probably a more accurate depiction of the real colour

Would anyone agree if i said that Ford is relying too much on customer feedback? They referred to it for the BA MkII upgrade and Now the BF.
I mean I bet the job theyve done on the guts of the car will be brilliant, but the average buyer wont really differentiate the BF from the BA. It isnt a bad thing at all that it looks similiar to a BA, although i was looking forward to a change, not necessarily sheetmetal but some more creativity with the front and rear plastic. Three years + of relatively the same really grows on you.

fpv_gtho
08-17-2005, 06:17 AM
Well think of the alternative. The AU had absolutely no buyer feedback for it or anything and it was something that ended up costing them about 20K sales a year from when it first went on sale to when it was finished.

Mystikal
08-17-2005, 06:26 AM
The AU was a drastic change though incorporating Ford's 'edge' style theme, so it was nothing like the previous model. I just wanted to see some creativity with the bumpers...kind of like the change from VYII to VZ Commodore front plastic. Even without the new bonnet and lights on the VZ the bumber replacement would have changed the look of the car. From what Ive seen the BF front still follows the same theme as the BA...in my opinion not enough has changed.

fpv_gtho
08-17-2005, 06:31 AM
Well the AU could still have been drastically different had Ford actually pulled random people from the public and asked their opinion of whatever the current designs were. Theyre doing that right now for the Orion Falcon due at the end of 2007, and thats another all new update.

Realistically, Ford have already spent too much than they needed to on the BA and Territory. You cant always expect them to be bringing out drastically changed models, when the public response likes what theyre given atm.

Huh??

Mystikal

At Fusions launch it was said that the 2007 Aussie Falcon would bear a resembleance to the Fusion, although they would take it a step further.

 Bright like the cabury cars a little maybe?
I usally see all the colors around here, Like i noticed before i seen it on the net that holden gave the SV6-8 SS the Turismo color after i seen a SV6 with it and a SS.
But most of them colors i havent seen yet.
Kashmir has got a little Sercuse to it and i liked that color on the VYII Calais:) But then again what didn't i like about the VYII Calais:D The price:)

I might have said this in the past but i really think Ford has gone way to far out on blue now before i thought they had rang it's neck out but now i think they really are going sicko with blue:p
I like Murcary silver and that's the color my brother chose on his XR6 and didnt get it in the end:(

Now i understand...i was thinking 2 things going together (that fusion)

To be honest, Fords newest attempt at a global face hasnt won me over. Its too much of an attempt to have an American based company have everything look European. I'd much rather adopt something similar to the "proper" Euro look on the latest Focus and Mondeo rather than the wannabe look of the Fusion, 500 etc.

They did say it would be a step further though for us in 07, which i think is a big way of getting around how the 3 bar grille would have any local car overheating in the middle of winter.

Has anybody seen pictures of the REAR of the BF?...I keep reading about new tail lamps but havnt seen them as yet...

Ive heard people speculating that theyre LED's, and others simply saying that theyre a new jewel or something...

Obviously thats something Ford wants to hold onto till later

Blue Supra

LEDs would be weird in a falcon, i cant imagine what theyd look like

fpv_gtho

Ive seen them as tailights for a tray, they were all clear and just lit up differently for each signal...

factory rice :p

Have a look on the statesman caprice and you will see LED's ;).
http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/images/holden-vz-92.JPG

I don't mind at all the new focus look. It's heaps better then the old thing that was pocks this one is nice all round but more so the front look.

Blue Supra

ah yes i have seen the stateo with LEDs. looks alright.

imagine replacing leds as opposed to globes though :p how fidgety and annoying :(

fpv_gtho
08-18-2005, 09:00 PM
might end up being easier, depending how its installed....LED's are pretty damn cheap

Blue Supra
08-18-2005, 10:29 PM
bulbs are like a dollar each...

fpv_gtho
08-18-2005, 10:58 PM
individual LED's are like 10c, but they'd be closer to $1 for proper ones that plug in/plug out, or if theyre in like a full panel for $10

Blue Supra
08-19-2005, 05:55 PM
instead of having to replace one bulb at approx $1

you have to replace several LEDs at $1 each...

can anyone see money making potential here? :p

fpv_gtho
08-19-2005, 10:36 PM
in principle its a gold mine..

but LED's are brighter, more reliable and more durable than halogen globes as well

Blue Supra
