From the Septhember edition of EVO.

The "Gentlemen's" agreement between maintsream German car makers to electronically limit the top speed of their cars to 155mph may be abandoned, in much the same way that the Japanese recently decided to stop restricting peak power output to an arbitrary 280PS (276bhp).

In the past it has been possible to ask your dealer to remove the limiter on some cars, but with the increased speed of even GOlf/Focus class cars, the likes of Mercedes, Audi and BMW are obviously thinking of once again putting distance between their autobahn stormers and the rest of the pack.

Brilliant :D

Yeah, that's awesome. I always found it difficult to sleep at night knowing that german people with more money than me can't go faster than 155mph...

Porsche never agreed to this anyway did they? I think they just want to have their sport models compete better.

Nope. The article went on to say that "Porsche was never a part of this agreement, as the picture above shows" and it shows a picture of th edials of a CGT flat out.

people can remove the limiter on request anyway... so what's the big deal on this?

BMW don't do it sometimes. I'm sure one of the companys required you to have a racing drivers license to remove the limiter, though that didn't last long.

Gas prices won't make a difference, anyone with enough money to buy one can probably afford to fuel it too.
