View Full Version : SRT-4... Making History

Sorry to make a thread about it, but I have to share this:

As I was reading a thread about a comparison between a Nissan 350Z and an SRT-4 (Neon Turbo)... (Yes, what a stupid comparison to begin with), some kid, favoring the Neon, threw this comment:

When you're buying a Neon SRT-4, you're buying perhaps one of the most satisfying sportscars in automotive history.

Good Lord... Who is he kidding?

How about this:

You can hear that turbo spool up, louder than anything I've heard in a stock car. And every time you shift the BOV rips away. And before you know it, you're doing 120mph on a residential street.

Someone please get ahold of this kid's car.

Before you know it? What, before you realised that you've been asleep for the past fifteen minutes? Before you realise that you've been daydreaming about having some real urge under your right foot? Yeesh, someone get that kid off the streets, his reactions must be terrible.

I doubt he's even old enough to drive. The SRT-4 does give you a lot of bang for the buck, but it's not THAT fast. If he had been describing an Evo, I would believe him. Just an SRT-4 fan boy. :)

Did he make that comparison while dreaming or in real life? (even if he did make the comparison in his dream he is still dumb)

What an irresponsible little twat!

120mph in a residential area is a) pretty hard to attain and b) amazingly dangerous.

And in a Neon SRT-4, well, what is he gonna say to the parents of some mutilated kid? "Well, hey, it goes real fast, but I need to check the brakes, it being a Chrysler and all..."

What a prize gimp.

The most satisfying sportscar experience, wow he needs to get out and drive some other cars. The Neon SRT-4 is a much better car then the Neon, but I can think of a long list cars I would get before the SRT-4. Some are actaully lower price then the SRT-4. This guy is ethier very uninformed of what cars are out there or is just the typical fanboy type that allows his love of something to distort how good it really is.

I don't mean to offend you or your car... But you drive a Scion XB man, what do you honestly expect?

My civic is a feather, but about 95% of the cars out there can destroy it... 85% of which are probably heavier... Weight means a lot, but HP / Torque can do wonders ;)

BWAHAHAHAHA ... rice paper...

guys like that make the srt-4 look so bad.
Its quite a decent car when look at what else is out there in its price range in north america.
and the upgrades done by the factory are some serius improvements, for litle less than 3000$ you can get the car to well over 300hp.
too bad its front wheel drive :(

A few Neon riders patrol the DTM forums (BMW club) waiting for some dumb kid whose mummy and daddy bought him a 325i for getting a C in math to post a thread shittalking SRT-4's, which they(neon riders) defend to the death.
It always finishes with "at the end of the day, you still drive a POS Neon" or some elitist shit.

Personally, I like to see them walk these kids who think their 325i with "chip and exhaust" is the hottest thing out there.

Some of us bought our own cars you failures.

I think you need a reason to buy a 16-year old a car rather than a reason not to. Why should you? What did they do to deserve a free car? Of course parents are there to provide structure and a means of living, but a car is not even anywhere near close to being a necessity. It's not like when you turn 16 life is suddenly way different than it is at 15. The only difference is that you can drive legally. Are your parents going to buy you alcohol when you turn 21? Are they going to buy you porn when you turn 18? Just because you want something when you are the legal are to get it doesn't mean your parents should for some reason feel obliged to just give it to you. That's called being spoiled.

Nice avatar by the way. At least you make your agenda obvious.

Whats wrong is when the kid is a lazy asshole who I have to go to school with and looks down on me because I don't drive a mercedes. My first car will most likely cost a few hundred bucks. It will definitely be used and I'll probably be working on it alot. This way I'll know how to drive, I'll know how to fix my car when it breaks, and if I do manage to scrape together enough money for a nice car, I'll know that its mine, not just because my dad is rich (he isn't). If your parents buy you a car, that's great, but you should give respect to the people who are working for it.

- My dad bought me my first car... I wasn't eligible to work in the United States under a student Visa and he got it for me. I'm not a spoiled little brat, I do know how to appreciate things and I thank him for teaching me well and helping me out when I turned 17. I work ever since I aquired my work permit / social security # / greencard and I pay for most of my stuff ever since... My car is a Civic LX btw, so nothing extraordinary like a BMW etc.

- SRT-4s are Neons whether you like it or not... It's like saying that an EVO isn't a Lancer, give me a break. Better suspension, turbocharged, slightly different looks... but still is a Neon.. and like any econobox with more power than stock, I doubt that its reliability is better than a standard Neon.

- Yes it can rape a $30K Bimmer... who cares? The point of the thread was in regard to an idiot who -judging from his statements- isn't aware of other cars out there.

- I do like the SRT-4, and I wouldn't mind owning one.

- Keep it on track FFS.

im not spoiled, my dad isnt buying me a car, im not getting a brand new BMW, it sounds like you just had a horrible experience with someone who had a new 325...you seem to have much hatred for these people, when really they are pretty nice, and its not a sin or anything to love your children and want to give them nice things, thats why you work hard, so you can afford to care for your children and give them what they need, and some of what they want.

My post wasn't aimed at you at all. I, in fact, don't see anything wrong with a father helping his son out. A BMW or simply anything really expensive is ridiculous for a 16 year older though.

I understand what your saying MP I have nothing against you or others whose parents bought them cars. Its just how some of them act towards other people that pisses me off. All I ask is that people be thankful for what they have (same goes for me, I'm not rich, but things could be alot worse) and don't look down on people who have less than you.

All too often the way it happens is that rich kids are given too much, they don't understand that other people work more and get less.

Don't mean to insult you at all or imply that you shouldn't use what your given. I know I would take whatever I could get. Just a little frustrated at seeing rich snobs in lambos, bmws, etc. when I work my ass off and save pennies to try to afford a half decent car.

I know I know, I'm not saying anything about you at all! I'm glad that your getting some cash from your dad, I hope you have fun with it.

I guess I just felt like ranting, because of my experience with people whose parents buy them (among other things) Insanely expensive new cars.

I never meant to say or imply that you are spoiled, lazy or stupid. I never meant to say you are snobby. I was just feeling a little pissed at those people who are. Can we go back to being a big happy family now :o

Yup. Bullseye. We don't get many rich kids here who get bought a car, and when i buy a guitar, I work solid for it.

A C in Math? I got an A and got a bike :p

That honestly can be said for anything. Why would they think of it as an insult?

At the end of the day....
EVO IX - You still drive a Lancer.
STI - You still drive an Impreza.
Cobra - You still drive a Mustang.
SRT-4 - You still drive a Neon.

So does it mean they're all insults for their brand? What if Dodge just brought it out as a "Dodge SRT-4" then it would be "Cool!" but it's not cool because "it's still a Neon".............? Explain.
